    Pros

Great money for someone who doesn't know where they want to go in life. No education or training needed.

    Cons

Communication is horrible and when you call someone they don't call you back

    Advice to Management

Promote the people who deserve it.

    Pros

Great mission, and an inspiring history. Purpose can be very motivating when patients and donors stay the priority. Pockets of ideal work environments.

    Cons

Antiquated, stale hierarchy and militarized tactics. Too often the value of the individual employee is overlooked or ignored. Favoritism runs rampant and promotions and recognition not entirely based on performance. Processes are bottlenecked in micromanagement. Rudeness and lack of personal respect for each other is tolerated.

    Advice to Management

Time for new ideas and leadership. Reminder that you are a community nonprofit, not a private family owned business.

I can't think of any cons. Maybe they could pay their phlebotomists better. For what it's worth, I was not a phlebotomist.

    Pros

The workload was evenly balanced in proportion, you must have been prioritized coming in for simplicity's sake. You did a variety of duties and found fulfilling lasting relations with coworkers and friends.

    Cons

Sometimes the work was a little physically taxing, under time constraints. We were sometimes caught unawares as to the instruction learning modules preparation. We needed a little more homework in terms of study guide material to decipher from.

    Advice to Management

Make more parking for the direct buildings.

    Pros

Working at a job where you save lives is one of the most incredible feelings. The idea of blood donation is a great one.

    Cons

The management is horrible. Constant threats to employees, cursing, ridiculing on a daily basis. No appreciation for donors or their health. Employee morale is non existent. Employee training is very poor and typically self guided.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and get rid if the nastiness that is the current management. Directors should not spend their days sitting in front of employees talking about their religion, political leanings, etc. Intimidation and bullying is not a proper form of management. I had a superior throw a desk phone at me and when I spoke to my supervisor I was told to "stop tattling" and get over it. Rules only apply to certain employees and favoritism is rampant.

    Pros

You are out helping to save lives. A very noble profession. Helping out people in the community. There is no substitute for blood.

    Cons

No consistency in work hours. You get off of a late drive and then are expected back in, at times, for an early drive 4 to 6 hours later. No discernible family/life balance. Management with no medical background themselves will hire anybody with no experience. To management, the donors are numbers. Units. They don't see them as people who give anywhere from at least 45 minutes to upwards of close to two hours of their time to pad their already inflated pay checks.

    Advice to Management

Quit. Get people that care about their employees and donors and don't view them as dollar signs. You don't care that the bottom line is about saving lives. All you care about is the '$'.

    Pros

Wonderful mission! Community Blood Centers allow you to go to work and touch lives every day which is a rare find anymore.

    Cons

Worst upper management I've ever encountered anywhere! Not a question of IF you will be fired, only a matter of time. Sad really but it is because the people at Corporate are really, really incompetent.

    Advice to Management

Resign so that competent people can replace you and run this company so that it benefits both the communities that it serves as well as its employees.

    Pros

decent pay, opportunity for plenty of overtime, plenty of PTO available, benefits decent, unused PTO paid out when you resign

    Cons

They will wear their employees out! Don't make any plans at the end of your shift, because you will likely not get off on time. Unless you are a recruiter or manager, Work-life balance is HORRIBLE. Let me just reiterate H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!
