Pros
Purpose and meaning in your work.
Cons
Some decisions seem to be made without getting feedback from those on the frontline.
Advice to Senior Management
Always ask for feedback from those who are on the frontlines.
Pros
Benefits, environment, co-workers, discounts, flexibility
Cons
Pay, long hours, management, upward mobility
Pros
Good to great pay for publishing industry and region of country. Decent benefits. Generally good atmosphere for creativity and innovation but thwarted by ineffective business plans and marketing strategies. Christian organization a plus.
Cons
Top levels of management do not understand core publishing business and make decisions based on the narrow range of their own experience which is mostly in a local church (pastors). Top down management style sometimes pretends to be bottom-up. Too many disconnected departments that don't function well together.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to listen to your employees then take necessary business decisions based on market conditions, and publishing trends not latest fad in church practice. Reduce overhead in order to be able to invest in innovation. Don't assume employees are worthless and out of touch most are experts at what they do and willing to keep learning. Employees should share in big decisions.
Pros
A Christian environment that supposedly promotes biblical values in helping churches to grow.
Cons
Most divisional leaders lack business acuments and professional experience in business decisions, planning and marketing. Fire flighting on internal issues and no holistic, bold approach to resolve technical incompetency in divisions. Top executives are not bright business leaders and have very narrow mind sets and views. They protect their personal interests more than the interests of the company, customers and employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Walk the talks! Live out the integrity of their faith.
Pros
Off on Sundays
Daily devotions for staff
Cons
People get hired and promoted who are clearly not living according to the LifeWay Vision Statement
No accountability for store managers
Advice to Senior Management
Hire people who live the Christian life and also live according to the morals that we were supposed to adhere to. In this store, several employees would spend more time talking about other employees on the sales floor, thus ignoring the customers and staff needs.
Pros
Atmosphere, support from leadership, ministry results
Cons
Difficult to promote, red tape (difficult to get things done quickly)
Pros
I found that work at lifeway was ok most the time. I enjoyed making friends and meeting new people. I also enjoyed a discount.
Cons
The main con is that lifeway was a very strict company to work for, and sometimes it was very frustrating.
Advice to Senior Management
I advise management to take their employees' opinions more seriously and to respect their feelings. I also believe that a bit more open-mindedness may ease some tensions.
Pros
flexable hours to suit your schedule, product knowledge to help reach the world for Christ, caring co-workers to constantly keeping you encouraged, and a corporate office that supports the work of the mission field . love it.
Cons
Lack of personel especially on event days are stressfull.
Event days planned around the same time as MAP days.
Employees not allowed to be creative with Feature walls and endcaps.
Out of Stock replenishment not fast enough. Especially with something is on sale.
No door bell up front to get in the building. lol
Advice to Senior Management
Instead of just coming to stores to grade it's faults and pluses, most associates would like to get to know our leadership better on a personal note. more town hall meetings so to speak.
working for LW for umpteen years, I have only met a half a handful of leaderhip in my lifetime from Nashville. Maybe you need to do the undercover Boss.lol
Pros
the ONLY reason i work there is that it is close to home. And i like their benefit packages.thats it.
Cons
it is supposed to be a christian place to work but once employed there, nothing they do is christian oriented.
Advice to Senior Management
to treat each employee the same and not pick on individuals just because they can not do certain jobs.Management should be trained to do the same jobs as the employee.
Pros
The ministry and the Core Values.
Cons
Poor Leadership in SOME areas, other area have great leadership.
Advice to Senior Management
The Core Values are great, why not stick to them. The second CV is "Our employees are our most important resource and are our means of building customer relationships to meet needs with biblical solutions which spiritually transform individuals and cultures." Really???
