Its a mess - top heavy with Management and Sales - disregard for Engineering and Operations Staff

I have been working at Lightower Fiber Networks full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary is the only good thing that I can think of that's keeping me at this company.....

    Cons

Engineering is not sized to support sales force.
Engineering leadership is disconnected from day to day operations.
Engineers have no yearly goal objectives.
Roles with-in engineering lack clarity and overlap with other departments.
Senior leadership is lead to believe, or choose to ignore issues with turning up new services - requires brute force each time to turn up an order.
Only concerned with the monthly sales and revenue numbers.
Lifeblood systems used to maintain inventory and service order delivery (CRM) is misaligned and flawed, consumes an enormous amount of amount of time each day.
A layer 1 company, struggling to become a "big fish" as well as becoming a layer 2/3 company. Polar opposite to a Tier I Telco with too many processes, Lightower has too few processes.
Integration issues between legacy systems and processes create in-efficiencies. Observed a limited effort to unify all staff.
Limited training, after being told by hiring manager that it was encouraged
    Poor synergies between functional departments
Poor moral - Engineering staff is burning out.
Lack of team effort, lost opportunities to get functional areas on the same page, this should come from senior leadership
Growing pains as the company tries to scale. Sometimes it's not clear who's making a decision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to management: align each departments roles/responsibilities, make an effort to get everyone one the same page.
Advice to management: recognize and address the issues associated with internal systems required to build and inventory service orders.
Advice to management: There are other departments besides sales to cozy up to, come on down to the dungeon sometime to get a fresh perspective on some of the challenges we have, Warren Buffett wont mind....

I have been working at Lightower Fiber Networks full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

benefits, learning opportunities, small business 'get it done' team work attitude among a lot of departments. My direct manager is very flexible but that is an individual attribute that varies across upper management. Company is growing at a rapid pace which is a good sign.

    Cons

no real standard way of working, great variance between management and groups. As the company grows headcount doesn't always keep up with growth which leads to burn out. Can be heavily political and secretive at HQ.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be less secretive, people work here because we want to. Tell us what's going on. Some structure and formality on advancement and the org chart would be good too.

I have been working at Lightower Fiber Networks full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

No one ever gets fired. Management doesn't report on anything. OT is a free for all.

    Cons

Good old boys club in Boxboro. The COO is not visible outside of where he works and huddles in a conference room when he visits other offices. The vision of the company is blurry at best. Everyone has a VP title. No real work gets done because everyone is reading and responding to emails.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time leading the company and less time responding to emails with 50+ people on them. Get out and speak to your people and realize that you have a cultural problem. Stop ignoring your job as management.
