Pros
Wonderful products and wonderful people. A fun work environment.
Cons
Poor compensation rate; very stringent on hours. Very little gratis.
Advice to Senior Management
Better associate connectivity.
Pros
They hire top notch talent and people. Strong functional competency. Exciting company to work for, as their name is always out there. When you say Limited Brands, everyone knows who they are.
Cons
Too political, where you can only move up if someone in leadership likes you, not necessarily on the quality of your work. Spent a lot of time with team building, but trained behaviors fall apart when the going gets tough.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't take yourselves too seriously. Evaluate people on the quality of their work, not just whether you like them or not.
Pros
Strong brands and very talented people focused on knowing the consumer leads to a positive work environment. Process driven, but not too much. They pay well, especially in the NY office.
Cons
Everything is very Columbus-focused, so working in the NY office can be tough. Lots of trips back and forth to Ohio and there are not as many opportunities for growth without moving there.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on internal movements more. There seems to be very little credit given to a person's "potential" versus their experience. I am not speaking as a disgruntled employee (I was well taken care of), but I saw this happening all around me.
Pros
Great Benefits
Nice Gratis and product bonuses
Vast majority of associates are happy, motivated young women
Cons
Management staff integrety, consistency, and professionalism is very sub-par
"Customer-centric" culture is not upheld by policies, nor does home office uphold policies that it thrives to implement through store staff - i.e. return policies
Advice to Senior Management
I believe that the majority of this company must function at a very high level, however, there are problem areas existing in decision-making and consistency that are a direct result of emotional rather than logical and policy-based problem-solving. It seems as though there is too much room allowed (especially on a store level) for emotional reactions to take presidence over professional and logical business maintenance. In addition, the amount of power or clout given to store level and district level management has resulted in management's failure to recognize associates for accomplishment andhas also resulted in failure to give associates the respect that they deserve in their workplace.
Pros
The money is competitive for the Columbus Market and the perks are great.
Cons
Advancing at Limited Brands is all about who is in your corner.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership would be well advised to stop beating up on everyone if they want anyone to stay much longer.
Pros
The discount! Employees receive a 40% discount at all brand stores. This discount even applies to gift card purchases.
The company does like to promote from within. Also, relocation benefits are excellent for corporate employees.
Cons
If hired in certain departments (such as internal audit), it can be very difficult to transfer out into operations or into another department within the corporate office.
Advice to Senior Management
I would have liked to see more effort made to cultivate hard working employees to move out into other parts of the company.
Pros
Limited Brands is a very stable company to work for with competent and intelligent management. They understand work-life balance very well and although we work hard, we aren't expected to stay all night.
Cons
In store design, we are limited (no pun intended) to what our CEO wants to do and don't bother getting too creative.
Advice to Senior Management
Turnover is down because no one has any options for leaving. When other jobs open up, I'm sure some of the design staff will leave because sometimes creativity is stifled.
Pros
Very laid back. Everyone was very friendly and seemed to enjoy coming to work. I talked to people at multiple levels with in the company and was treated as an equal even though I was far from it. I needed to learn how a large part of their business operated and how to use the more advanced functions in excel and access in a very short time so that I could complete my project and everyone there was very helpful teaching me what I needed to know.
Cons
if you don't like meetings and sitting at a desk go some where else.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work!
Pros
Good work / life balance. Really respects the home life and values families. Plenty of opportunities to grow your career.
Cons
Pay is not especially great. Sometimes you are not working with the brightest of the bright. Change within the company is mildly difficult. People get very set in their ways.
Advice to Senior Management
None at this time.
Pros
Company lives by its values: Inclusion, Passion leads to success, It matters how you play the game, Our customer rules. Evident in stores as well as corporate.
Challenging work to grow skill set and be promoted to next. Opportunities for advancement exist. Excellent benefits.
Cons
Must be consistent in work performance in order to promote to next. This seems simple, but one must juggle a lot of balls in the air to be successful. On the positive, there's superb leadership w/in the organization to help you get to next.
Advice to Senior Management
To intensify on-boarding efforts in order to better set field managers up for success. This will minimized the amount of performance based turnover when joining Limited Brands from external companies.
