    Pros

The company provides great support for actuarial students to progress through the rigorous exam process. The actuarial program is very structured and provides appropriate incentives.

    Cons

There seem to still be some struggles with integration from the merger with Jefferson Pilot. There is culture clash and miscommunication between campuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lincoln Financial Group is a great company and a great employer. I would still be there if human resources hadn't botched my relocation!

    Sub-Par Company, frustrating work environment.

I have been working at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very authentic senior management, good benefits, mid size insurance company. Managed to survive financial crisis, but not immune to another crisis.

    Cons

Very poor middle management, short term goals undermine long term core values of company. Uncompetitive compensation, at best suited for sub-par professions who want to sit for a few years. Advancement opportunities are not given on basis of merit. Waste of budgets every year, tv ads misrepresent internal company realities, but great marketing dept.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Disconnect between Senior management and employees. Problem is mid level management at manager and director level, abuse of power issues. Merit not rewarded, Lincoln would not approve. Outsourcing services and functions very short term benefits, long term risks.

Don't bother working in jobs outside of the sales area

I have been working at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good 401k match and work life balance. The company knows how to reward sales people. If you are not involved in sales avoid this company.

    Cons

The company lacks a clear path to develop internal talent. If your going to join this company don't plan to spend more than 2-3 years there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on developing the talent that you have internally rather than hiring outside the company for new opportunities.

    Pros

Professional and accessible managers, low turnover.

    Cons

Lousy, Immature co-workers. Working in the implementation department was like going back to romper room every day. Co workers at times made unprofessional, inappropriate and even racist comments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remind employees that when you go to work, you should behave like adults.

I have been working at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

A lot of departments offer some type of flexibile schedule. The company offers good benefits including medical, vision, dental, 401K, life insurance, LTD, STD, accident and critical illness.

    Cons

It is hard to move in to a new position - it takes a while. Medical is switching next year to a HSA type plan and there will be no PPO option plan available, so this becomes more expensive for deductibles. Parking is difficult and often full even if you are assigned a garage or surface lot (no assigned spot, just by area).

Very typical company that is a large corporation.

I have been working at Lincoln Financial Group

    Pros

Great 401k plan and benefits. Has on site cafeteria and Starbucks. Lots of opportunity for advancement. Most of management has an "open door" policy.

    Cons

Contact Center is more focused on stats as opposed to the customer experience. They say they are focused on the customer experience but they equate that only to hold times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to all of your employees. They are the ones that speak to the customers. If their morale is down because of what management has put in place, change. Taking paid holidays away from employees really hurts morale (granted, when you are being paid 2 1/2 times your pay on a holiday, it helps). But when people make plans for a holiday and then 3 weeks before the holiday, they are told that they will be working, it really hurts morale.

I have been working at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent independence and work environment. Great hands off managers. High level of talent within the workplace. Very quick to adapt to market changes. Good support of independent thinking and promotes continuous improvement in any means you would like to execute.

    Cons

Limited training opportunities and most of it is voluntary. I personally think training should be mandatory so everyone is on the same page.
Frequent organizational changes that are some times unecessary.
Heavy reliance on external consulting when the answer and solutions are already known by the operations/front line employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You hire some of the best people in the industry, but that doesn't mean they can rest on their laurels. Ramp up your training program for both sales and operations, especially internals.
