Pros
Great industry to work in
Free access for you and a guest to most concerts at company-owned ampitheatres
Ok salary
Cons
No communication from management
Inexperienced management for a company this large
$4-5 billion in annual revenues, yet the company has never made a profit
Executives hoard all bonuses and stock awards
No performance evaluations or goal-setting processes
All talented people flee this organization as fast as they can
Advice to Senior Management
Advice to the Board of Directors - get a new executive leadership team before they run the company into the ground.
Pros
- inherently a "cool' business that can have a lot of "soul"
- glam factor since it is the concert business
- access to concert tickets
- some great people
Cons
- the most dysfunctional, insecure and unqualified senior team I have ever encountered
- Sr. executives communicate through fear and intimidation, lots of screaming and swearing
- reward and recognition is primarily based on who is in favor...forget about performance
- no company direction
- command and control leadership style that thoroughly suffocates innovation and common sense
Advice to Senior Management
Get some real "leaders' into the senior team and get rid of the screaming incompetents. Respect your employees. Treat the fans right and have the guts to do what is right for the music and concert business. How do you expect to make money when you constantly rip off the fans?!
Pros
you get to brag to all of your friends about working in the music business and have some access to concert tickets.
Cons
many overly qualified people working as assistants and will continue to work as under paid assistants because there is no room for growth in this company
Advice to Senior Management
there needs to be a higher amount of respect and appreciation between all sectors of the company. a lot of unhappy workers.
Pros
-Fun environment
-Friendly employees
-Worked with big-name clients for sponsorship (Anhesur-Busch, Coke, Chevy, Brown-Forman)
-Free tickets
-Good office celebrations and other corporate events
Cons
-Low pay
-Little direction/organization
-Work weekends during the summer months
-Limited opportunities for advancement
Pros
My co-workers and the excitement of working at a live entertainment venue.
Cons
Extreme pressure from the executive team to hit outlandish sales quotas and their complete ignorance to the differences among their markets throughout the United States. Employees are expected to generate sales while also completing unnecessary spreadsheets and taking part in worthless conference calls, all so the powers that be can feel a sense of control over everyone.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a better understanding of what it is that everyone does on a daily basis and the differences that exist between a market like, say- Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, IL. What sells in Chicago may not work in Cleveland, and vice-versa. Employees are only as good as their last big sale. You could hit your quota one year- sell a lucrative name and title deal and be fired three months later for not hitting a monthly goal. The vast majority of people I know still working with the company are truly unhappy.
Pros
Great introduction into the entertainment/music business… You get a lot of hands on experience, they give you tons of responsibility (clients of your own, etc.). You become an essential part of the company. Lots to talk about in future interviews. You will go to numerous free concerts, and once in awhile run into famous artists.
Cons
-Unpaid internship
-Long hours - you will definitely end up working over 40 hours a week, unpaid. After awhile, this concept is hard to deal with.
-Difficult hours - Not truly LN's fault, but working in the concert industry, you will be working many nights and weekends during concerts
Advice to Senior Management
Remember that your interns are people too - we are not getting paid, so although the experience is invaluable, we also need you to be flexible in terms of hours and not working us overtime every week.
Pros
I saw many good bands when I worked at the Live Nation venue I worked at.
Cons
Terrible management, no vision, not creativity in booking. Totally abandoned the local music scene, ceased to be a "local" venue at all. A shell of its former self. Management mishandled things so badly that we were forced to unionize, though there were many that didn't want to and wouldn't have if incompetent management had been even vaguely proactive.
Advice to Senior Management
Find another industry to work in if you want to make money.
Pros
Fun, Laid back atmosphere. Lot of time away from office and at various venues - can be good or bad depending what you think. I thought it was great. flexible hours.
Cons
intern pay not great, seemed to give lot of crummy jobs to interns... though this can be somewhat expected. Not too much challenging work.
Advice to Senior Management
to give employees more ownership over their work, and allow lower level employees more opportunity to work on bigger projects.
Pros
Definitely a great place to build a foundation in the industry, amazing growth potential and a fabulous work environment to work in.
Cons
Sometimes a little too much for the person that they cannot handle the workload or might be overwhelmed in retrospect of the job.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep on trying to do what you think you can offer in the industry and do not give up on the hopes of your dreams.
Pros
free t-shirts every few weeks
commuter checks are a nice way to fill up the clipper card
free sodas, juice, coffee and tea
Cons
can't count on manager support
can't count on deadlines being real
managers will not even try to improve the situation
defeatist attitude really makes it hard to contribute
Advice to Senior Management
fix the things that are broken instead of just keeping track of the same issues meeting after meeting
learn how to lead and motivate a team
