Rollercoaster ride of highs & lows due to frequent re-organization of company by sr. mgmt

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Liz Claiborne

ProsExcellent benefits - but only for those who are hired in NY- if you work for one of the divisions in LA, you may not receive the same package.
In NY, 21 days of vacation out of the gate, frequent sample sales, matching 401K, good health insurance. Great group of people, many with long careers in the industry - good place to learn about the wholesale fashion business.
Some of my very best, challenging & productive work years were spent there - I'm proud to be an alumni.

ConsLiz Claiborne was founded as a company with forward-thinking respect for its employees & the core of that has survived on the corporate level - however, its brands have increasing autonomy - not all of them share the same values. It's a shame.

Advice to Senior ManagementLiz Claiborne has a legacy of delivering to its accounts well made, innovative product in a timely fashion - its wholesale backbone & team of experienced professionals are a valuable resource.

ProsIf you want to learn about product development process this is a good place.

ConsNot a focused company, constant changing of direction.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you downsize emplyees you should not ban them from being hired by other divisions of the company-that is disgraceful.

This company is being run to the ground

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
North Bergen, NJ

I have been working at Liz Claiborne

ProsLots of perks. Sample sales, summer hours, 21 vacation days

ConsUpper management is horrible at communicating when big changes take place. Employees find out most of the changes through press releases on the internet. They keep selling all the brands. I would be surprised if they are still in business in a year.

IT Analyst (Former Employee)

I worked at Liz Claiborne

ProsGood vacation package and summer hours
Casual dress code
Friendly people
Work load was OK

ConsSenior management have their favorites
Not career advancement

Advice to Senior ManagementThe Senior management should trust the managers under them. The senior management have their hand tied and it looks like the middle management has no power.

Great place to work, too bad the company is struggling

Administrative (Current Employee)
North Bergen, NJ

I have been working at Liz Claiborne

Prosworkforce is vibrant and fashionable. Dress code is casual and sample sales are excellent. Many talented people culture is not overly cut throat many people are willing to share knowledge and help you grow. Having a gym and cafeteria on site is great. Very family friendly, no one looks down on you for having a family and they allow you time to be with them. Vacation package is very generous.

ConsThere are a lot of inviduals in c level management that are complete idiots, shame really. CEO seems to be at loss for how to turn company around and just keeps shedding brands. Divisional associates that do not work for upper managements "pet" brands get little to no company wide recognition. Juicy, lucky, kate ENOUGH! There are other brands in the portfolio recognize them. Also constant layoffs have left many people on edge and overworked.

Advice to Senior ManagementCompany should implement peer based review process so associates can get recognition for accomplishments that management may not always be aware of. Also if subordinates were allowed to review their superiors it would help them identify faults within their own management styles and also weed out some of these management duds that have the gift of gab and not much else.

Intern

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Liz Claiborne

ProsThe people are really nice and easygoing. I barely had to stay late - basically 9-5 job.

ConsThere's way too much gossip and drama (but then again, most companies are like this). Also, the work is too relaxed. Everyone spends a lot of time chit chatting rather than doing actual work.

Advice to Senior ManagementDuring my time, I've seen many people come and go. I really wish Liz Claiborne retained those who actually provided their time and effort in the company.
