I worked at Loblaw part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The job was stable, and the compensation was fair. People were treated fairly, the managers were nice and flexible. Very good place to work at in general.

    Cons

Had to pay union dues, which were a big part of the pay cheque, didn't have a choice about whether we wanted to be a part of the union or not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow workers to decide whether they want to be part of the union or not.

I have been working at Loblaw part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The rest of the staff is great. And you do feel like an important part of the team, which is nice.

    Cons

Not enough staffing for the pharmacy. Also seems like they will do anything possible to not have to pay people overtime (who have worked overtime).

I have been working at Loblaw part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Employees are welcoming, the company provides benefits after a certain period of time if you're interested, the store is well maintained, there is a scholarship available.

    Cons

As a student, how on earth are you expected to be well-rounded, involved in extra-curriculars, and work towards a better future when the contract for availability is so demanding? Of course, this depends on who your manager is. But regardless, being EXPECTED to work either one day from mon-thurs until 6 or a night after five (mon-thurs), plus mandatory availability on friday/saturday/sunday is RIDICULOUS. That adds up to being available 4 times during the week. Most students attend school 5 days a week and can barely even make the availability requirements with school, let alone extra curricular activities, especially after having to calculate the commute time. And if you negotiate with some managers, your only option is to quit or take a leave of absence, even if you can work alternative days.

I am disgusted to see that a company like this discourages youth from work-life balance because it is so demanding and taxing on your time. Not all of us are trying to work as part time employees for the rest of our lives, FYI. If you work for this company and aspire to get an education and intend to balance extra curricular activities, pray that you have a decent manager who is willing to accommodate you as a student. If not, don't even bother with this place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How about this company discusses FLEXIBILITY and the true definition of what it means to have a balance between work and life.

I have been working at Loblaw full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great people, a lot of events and great place to network. stock matching, 80% benefits, two weeks vacation to start.

    Cons

Politics! Layoffs, and more politics. Its no what you know it who you know. management is very apathetic and a lot of people have an ego. Maybe i got hired to the wrong department but when i spoke to other the felt the same way. You are overworked for the pay..you will earn your money.
