    Pros

The most human company I've ever been a part of.

The company gives big career opportunities to folks who make an impact. Meritocracy isn't just a buzz word - it's a core value of the company that can be backed up with many, many examples of folks who have been promoted from within including all of the executives.

The fun side of the company's culture is driven by the employees not the HR team. Employees genuinely enjoy spending time together inside and outside of work and have formed little groups around their passions - anything from ultimate frisbee to crafts to mixology and more.

    Cons

There are sooo many social groups/activities/events and there isn't one place to keep track of all of them. You can miss out on a bunch if you don't stay connected.

    Advice to Management

    What is a company?
It is all about the people and the 'company' you keep.

The management at this company preaches that but does not practice it. The company first vs people second approach is what has been known to work so brilliantly everywhere. Isn't that correct?
    Wrong.
This place and the people running the show here do not get it.

The good things: people on the grassroots level and some of those higher up are an absolute pleasure to be with and work with everyday.
Apart from that nothing is really good. You may get brilliant espresso machines and some interesting benefits but these things get old fast. You just cannot replace other basic things in life and work with perks.

And for the good people: they are either leaving or are very unhappy. The company would deny that and the management either does not have the ability to sense that (speaks about their competency) or they want to ignore it (alarming), but this is happening. If facts and actions do not work for the people who are making this place for you then why do we have this company?
This is a gold mine for recruiters in the oh so very competitive and rewarding market out there.

The culture: Yes there is a list of values but the actions of the top management do not support what they say the values of the company are.

'Culture and people' has traditionally been a USP for this company. If those were the big selling points, they are both down the drain now so what is left? The management is the only entity to be blamed here and they know it. If they do not know it yet then all this is pointless any way.

Most people are hanging in to get their retention bonuses and earnouts that have come in as a result of a recent acquisition by a large company and that is it.

Some people in tech are trying to keep the ship afloat and make it better but those efforts can go only so far if the overall vision for the company is going to be very shortsighted and the management(Engineering, Business, and all that) continues to treat people poorly.

You would think that your career will grow here as this is a mid sized "supposedly growing" company, think again.
Opportunities for advancements and raises are abysmal. The lean approach to building a company has gone too far. So far, that it is eating into the lives and livelihoods of the people who make this company. Most people who end up here are here because of some hardship they faced at that point in time, giving the company an advantage in recruitment. When that is no longer the case, they leave.

Dear management, if the people are a low priority for you, you are missing the whole point behind a company. You have unfortunately pushed it to the point of no comeback unless drastic changes in management take place.

    Pros

Great opportunity to explore a career in the technical field. Pleasant office space, filled with a diverse amount of individuals that add to the overall great experience.

    Cons

Little to no opportunity for personal growth. With that said, your compensation remains fairly stagnant.

    Pros

Great coworkers. Good additional perks like snacks

    Cons

-Used to have great coworkers and a touted meritocracy but has devolved into favoritism/cronyism where people were promoted/advanced that deserved it less than others primarily because of who they're friends with.
-Don't trust the directors/managers. They may say something to your face and then bad mouth you behind your back.
    -The better employees are leaving.
-Little advancement for growth or raises.

    Pros

Benefits are bar none! The management is amazing, they are straight forward, and there isn't any "corporate jargon." You're encouraged to give your opinion and even argue back. Even through there are clear roles defined, everyone's opinion is valued! The CEO is fantastic, he knows his employees by name and he truly cares about the future of the company. There are snacks in the kitchen and beer on tap on each floor! They have weekly massages and yoga! The people who work here are incredibly smart and you really have to be on your A game to keep up, but that creates a lot of opportunity for personal and professional growth.

    Cons

Very few vacation days and 0 personal days. There is no work-life balance, so you're kind of forced to create one on your own.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the passionate and good work! Keep up the company culture and don't get lost in the corporate world. Stay true to Meritocracy.

    Pros

Great pay. Full featured and stocked kitchen with breakfast, lunch and daily snacks. Oh plus kegerators on each floor kitchen. Senior management makes it a priority to buy locally which is nice. Co-Workers are great and feels like you are hanging out at their house doing work (is also a con please read below) relaxed environment, benefits are good and unlimited personal time off if needed, unpaid of course but a nice option for emergencies.

Building is easy to get to using public transportation (bus, shuttle and train) never have to deal with parking since there are several place to park. Close walk to great lunch options

    Cons

Very "bro-ish" culture as most people are friends outside of work which makes the teams very "clickish" Very little chance of getting a raise or moving up in the company unless you are friends (outside of work) of your managers and because of this your quality of work does not matter if you are looking to move teams or changing job titles.

The core value of the company is meritocracy and I think they have lost sight of that. I have seen really successful and hard working people lose their jobs for no reason because one or more of the executive staff do not personally like that person. Most people see that and are afraid that they will not have a job the next day because they are not personal friends with the management or the executive team does not want them around anymore.

This creates a lot of office "drama" with people talking behind other peoples back or going out of their way to please senior staff and executive management for fear of doing something wrong that could end their employment without notice.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people who are not acquaintances of current employees to break up the current bias that exists in all departments. Be more transparent in your decisions and listen to your employees and not flat out right ignore what they are saying because you think it's the best option. LL states that they hire the best and the brightest as they say put your money where your mouth is and listen to new ideas and don't immediately shoot them down.

Senior and Executive staff need to realize that not everyone you having working for you is your buddy you hangout with after work and are people who are there to help the company grow and function as we.ll as grow themselves to better their career. Stop laying off and firing people because they don't know you personally work places are supposed to be diverse and have a wide range of different people this is what makes them unique and fun to work at

Bring back meritocracy and don't let your personal feelings affect your decisions

    Pros

Incredibly smart people, dedicated, hard working and people seeing the big picture. Nice perks, catered lunches each Friday, snacks all day every day. Co-Workers are the brightest in the businesses

    Cons

Management, Management, Management, Management. The company used to thrive on creativity and boosting each and every employee to new highs both to better themselves and add new valuable skills, Now there severe Cronyism in all departments. People are fired or laid off for no reason, departments are over run with over overzealous and egotistical managers who are looking for a pay off rather than boosting the product that they are building and selling to the public.

There are some genuinely intelligent, smart and passionate people still employed at Location Labs and it's a shame they are wasting their talent for a management that does not care about them. These hard working individuals are just a future share or a pay check for the owners and C level staff once the company is sold off.

    Advice to Management

Please stop seeing your employees as your retirement option. Stop laying off talented employees who don't fit your "Harvard" education, stop the severe Cronyism in your various departments. Again to recap the biggest issue at LocationLabs is to stop treating your talent as your payday and start treating them as people who are working to make great software not trying to make you the biggest paycheck.

    Pros

some health benefits are good, if you are lucky you can get to work on the good stuff. Some people are really smart and a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

the meritocracy principle that they used to tout is starting to fade away, it is almost a joke now.
there is a lot of favoritism - a lot, management doesn't care about the employees any more or the direction of the product they are building. the company recently got acquired and ever since then the target has been to maximize the personal gains of the top few people.
there is no clear sense of where the company is headed.
Transparency is a big problem, the management takes decisions and you have no clue why they do those things. Promotions and raises are very arbitrary with no notion of how to be successful. If the boss likes you then you are successful, if you do good work but not a boss fav then mostly not.
The place also suffers from high egos of a few people or which is also called the diva affect. The leaders are in love with divas so you can imagine what that does to the morale of others.

The place has some really good people but they are starting to leave. The others who are still there will leave soon too.

    Advice to Management

If you tout meritocracy then be true to it and be transparent. Stop being cheap and start paying people because they are the ones building value that you are enjoying. Stop being cheap and shortsighted in general in everything.
do not hire mediocre people or over the top people who think they are unique and if you do hire some of these then do not blindly love them. Stop looking at your personal gains. Make decisions that help the company and not just you personally.
