    Pros

If you are affiliated with a partner that has a very profitable and busy book of business, or if you have your own profitable book of business, you can make good money as an attorney at this firm. The support services are good (for those with a thriving practice).

    Cons

The management is absolutely greedy, cut-throat and cold-hearted. It's all about the dollars and the numbers. You simply don't matter as an individual, everyone at the firm realizes it, and the morale is terrible among the majority of the people.

    Advice to Management

Remember some of the lessons that your mother probably taught you many years ago.

    Pros

You reap all the benefits that a corporation can offer...great vacation, great insurance, good holiday parties.

    Cons

The secretaries were making upwards of $80k and don't know how to use Powerpoint or Excel, but those who were recently hired make bare minimum salaries and have an abundance of knowledge regarding computers, programs and getting work done efficiently. There's a lot of politics (as expected) and you have to know how to suck up to people in order to get higher in the ranks.

    Advice to Management

Treat people with more respect and run your business with integrity and fairness.

    Pros

Great people and environment. Always looking to benefit the community. They really empathize with their employees, especially during the recession when I was employed.

    Cons

There weren't any noticeable con's. I worked their while still in school and was given plenty of opportunity.

    Advice to Management

While employed for two years I never once received a company wide update on the progress of the firm. What our main initiatives were coming into the new year, and what our outlook was versus the market.

    Pros

Hard work-life balance if you are a woman, especially; friendly people; fun activities; good pay

    Cons

Competitive environment and billable hours make it hard to be an associate but a good life as a partner

    Pros

    --Pays relatively well
    --Pretty good work/life balance

    Cons

--No consistent work, which makes it very difficult to make hours or develop a robust skill-set.
--Related to the first point, the partners do not go out and hustle for work. There is a lot of complacency for a firm that is in my view awkwardly positioned -- not as prestigious as a top firm, but nearly as expensive. It doesn't have a natural client base, which shows.
--Never has been able to develop a client base in financial services.

    Advice to Management

--Hire and compensate partners based on their ability to generate business (not merely promises), not based on how much loyalty they show to entrenched management.

    Pros

Firm management is strong and supports practice development. Generally willing to compensate at market levels. Each office has their own culture, but people are generally easy to get along with. Work-life and time off issues are typical of any Big Law firm.

    Cons

Partner comp is totally formulaic and fails to account for work performed by time keepers on work brought in.
