    Pros

Work life balance; Good Benefits; 9/80 work weeks; Pension (although this has been eliminated for new employees).

The company also has a lot of talent within its ranks at all levels. The best part of working for LM is working with the people. Even as a long term employee, I still learn something new every day on the job. This cannot be said about a lot of jobs in the workplace.

Company makes an effort to hire from within the company prior to looking outside. This is smart because the company has so much talent and its nice to see them embrace it.

    Cons

Mimimal opportunities to advance into Management.
Limited telecommuting opportunities based upon the business area and/or program.
Benefits are being downgraded with the passage of time. Hopefully they can strike a good balance and hold the benefit level otherwise this make it hard for the company to maintain current talent at all levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

LM heritage Management made decisions based on both Engineering and Financial assesements. Current Management needs to keep that as their basis for making strategic decisions in the future and not limit decisions based only on financial assessments.

    Pros

Lots of freedom and trust, and plenty of flexibility in my work schedule.

    Cons

Once locked in at your starting salary, the annual pay increases aren't very substantial. It takes a lot of time to be properly rewarded financially for your work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I can appreciate the rigid structure for salary increases and promotions, but I think it needs to be more elastic to allow its employees to be fairly rewarded for good work.

    Pros

Cutting edge products and interesting military work.

    Cons

Union environment where people are allowed to slack off too much. Seniority is everything and how long you have been there means far more than how good you are at what you do or how hard you work. Engineering side is better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stand up to the government when you know they are wrong or uneducated on a subject.

    Pros

9/80 - Every other Friday is an off day
    Great people to work around
Take care of their employees as best they can within a large company
    Informative management (upper/executive)
This company is a great company with a nice benefits package - 3 weeks vacation from the first year, 1 week plant shutdown over Christmas/New Year and every other Friday off, nice 401K match, healthplan, tuition reimbursement, and upward mobility for those motivated and driven to seek it.

    Cons

I would be hard pressed to come up with a legitimate con. Yes, Lockheed and most other companies have their share of challenges, but most are minor in nature. You will likely hear about, as a defense contractor, it is viewed as a volatile employment option, but I believe if you work hard and you happen to be in some department that is being eliminated/reduced b/c of contractual issues, you will likely find an open position somewhere else in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing and getting better at it. Continue to look out for your employees while simultaneously taking care of the customer(s).

    Pros

There is no pros in working for this company. The Unions have taking a company that once was at the front of aviation invitation and turned it into a company full of lazy poorly trained leeches.

    Cons

The Unions. They protect the useless. While running off high skilled people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the Unions. Return this company back to it's former glory.

I have learned a lot but I have had to make some serious life sacrifices because of the time commitment the job requires

Current Employee - Contracts Negotiator Associate in Atlanta, GA

    Pros

-Learning Opportunities with government and international customers
    -Lots of training opportunities
-Many different types of positions available to explore within the company
    -Part of producing Great Products
-There is a wide variety of projects and customers to work on and for

    Cons

    -Work/Life Balance is nearly impossible
    -Management can be unhelpful
-My section is overworked and underrewarded
    -Very bureaucratic at times
-Salary seem low for the industry
-Working conditions are miserable. Most of the business management positions have no windows, the walk in from the parking lot takes around 10-15 minutes. That seems minute but it steals around 20-30 minutes lunch time everyday and adds to the beginning and ending of the commute.
-Little to no reward for good or great performance. This is the worst part about working for LM. There is very little recognition for your work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more hands on help. Delve into situations with employees and show them how to respond to difficult situations. Recognize when employees perform at a high level and reward them.

Current Employee - Senior Systems Engineer in Atlanta, GA

    Pros

Lockheed Martin provides an avenue for career growth. Regardless of your current career level, there is an area that would fit. Because of many different connections to government, you have the potential to work with various agencies and even become a federal employee if that is your desire.

    Cons

The pro and con is somewhat of the same. Because you are working with the government, there is much stress that comes along with project deadlines, pace and even completion of projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should take a long look at the type of projects that are requested and accepted. Many employees are concerned about the communication between LM and government entities.
