    Pros

I was surrounded by very skilled people. There was almost no deadwood anywhere. Very cool technology. Everywhere the attitude of stepping up to the plate.

    Cons

Not sure how they got so many highly skilled people, because their interview process sucked. No one was trained how to perform a good technical interview; random techies were simply asked to look at a few résumés and choose a couple to invite for interviews. The annual performance review process was a time-wasting, unscientific disaster, changed every year and never for the better. Some employees, while very skilled, are completely unaware of recent software development practices.

    Advice to Management

Improve the onboarding process; teach new employees (1) how things are done, and (2) why they are done that way, the historical reasons, instead of leaving them wondering and/or ignorant until one day they stumble across the information.

    Pros

Ability to move around in the company. Many opportunities to advance career if you look hard enough and take hold of your own career. Many programs are working towards adopting Agile methodologies.

    Cons

There are some large challenges in becoming agile here. A lot of the challenge is on the customer side. Need to work with customers on how to become more agile.

    Pros

Friendly competitive work that is fast paced and you are well compensated for your work. Great company, great corporate culture.

    Cons

The hours are often long and grueling, the work can be meticulous with absolutely no room for mistakes. Easy to be looked over because of the size of the company.

    Pros

Many opportunities to expand your career; Travel is often required for fast track individuals

    Cons

No annual bonus; Many visible and profitable positions are still filled with who you know mentality as opposed to what you know.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to give the new generation a chance at demonstrating their leadership capabilities; Leadership is individual asset and not something that education guarantees

    Pros

Lockheed is a pretty good company to work with. My co-workers are very intelligent, the benefits are great and the pay is above average.

    Cons

I haven't found anything too big to gripe about.

    Advice to Management

Bigger raises! But in all seriousness, it is a big problem with younger talent leaving the company after a few years. Management wonders why that is, but just do the math... You don't offer any incentives to stay with the company for more than a few years (vested in 401k). Bring back a pension! Beyond that, when the average person gets a 3-4% raise for their 'performance' that year, they quickly realize they can take another job with another company and get a 10, 15, even 20% raise that way as well as a signing bonus? There's your answer. Reward your employees or you will continue to see a high turnover rate.
