Pros
money is good, but they treat young employees better
Cons
they treat young engineers better
Pros
Good Benefits. Much of the technical work is interesting and cutting edge. Highly ethical culture. Ability to work with intelligent people / experts in various fields.
Cons
Lack of agility, inability to adapt to changing environmental / economic conditions. Moves into adjacent markets generally failing. Bureaucratic organization. Management layers still not right sized after extensive trimming. Lack of career opportunities to most people due to shrinking revenue and company size.
Advice to Senior Management
New blood in executive ranks might revitalize some stodgy old ways. Improve Human Capital Management practices, which generally lag the industry and will cripple opportunities to grow in the next boom cycle.
Pros
Large company, opportunity to work for the government
Cons
Pay is average, no good salary increases
Advice to Senior Management
Keep your word.
Pros
Work, Life balance, pay is great and of course 9/80 work schedule.
Cons
I think the biggest problem is middle management
Advice to Senior Management
Allow your supervisor to do what they are paid to do.
Pros
They pay for you to get an advanced degree. Pretty much the only reason to work at this company. Get your degree and leave.
Cons
No opportunities for advancement.
Below industry average salaries.
No respect for young employees.
Management could care less about their employees.
Unethical senior leadership. Ethics is a complete farce.
HR is terrible and has no idea what's going on.
Too many VPs with 0 direct reports and add no value.
Poorly managed Leadership Development Programs.
Advice to Senior Management
Practice what you preach. I personally experienced extremely unethical behavior from many senior leaders that went completely unpunished, despite filing several ethics reports. Stop being afraid to fire people who don't perform. Give more opportunities to young people or else we will continue to leave after we get our grad degrees. Promote your people and pay more. Give people meaningful work. Get rid of worthless overhead orgs. Colleges are not recommending students apply to LM because you have a horrible reputation. Change it or else you'll never grow in the future.
Pros
Ability to be surrounded by the service men and women of our country. Ability to work on the military base with relative security and abscence from the general publlic
Cons
Some of the management staff did not have the people skills necessary to deal with the leadership duties of their positions. I believe that any one in those positions need to go through leadership training and prove themselves able to handle difficult situations.
Advice to Senior Management
Send all of your staff that are in a leadership role to leadership training and make sure they have the character type that adapted to ensuring a efficient working environment
Pros
Its is a great place for those fresh out of college but you will reach a glass ceiling within 10 years.
Cons
Career advancement is very limited. Rewards for great jobs commendation from customers is very limited. I get better reviews from the customer than from local management. Over the last decade I have received 6 commendations from the customer but not one from the company, worse the company didn't even recognize the customer commendations. Something is terribly wrong with thi picture.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to reward employees and learn to treat employees as your best asset. The CEO is more worried about keeping Wall Street happy at the expense of employees. It seems Lockheed is no longer valuing its technical talent but tends to favor the paper-pushers. Lockheed also needs to get people that know how to schedule REALISTIC deadlines. Has anyone noticed how Lockheed keeps missing milestones, thus award fees? Most of the current schedulers couldn't change a flat tire.
Pros
Strong company that will always have a stable future for its employees. Rewarding working environment that is always on the cutting edge.
Cons
Older workforce may not be suitable for all employees. Strict policies since it is a government contractor. Big company might be a downside for some.
Pros
High Ethical standards and a desire to "do the right thing". Compensation is good and benefits are excellent compared to most other employers. Brilliant people to work with. Those at the very top of the company are impressive, smart and capable of guiding this company thru difficult economical times.
Cons
workforce reductions have meant more work for fewer people. Depending on your role, the workload and demand on your schedule can be burdensome.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to weed out the leaders who do not show consistent "care" for their employees.
Pros
Benifet package, Work schedule. Holliday time off.
Cons
Unpredictable Layoffs, parking and could use more access to computers for floor employees.
Advice to Senior Management
More face to face time with employees.
