Pros
Industry-leading benefits package, especially medical and dental. Company is professional, and politics were there but not pervasive. Company wants to do a good system integration job for the DoD, but budget uncertainty over the past few years in Congress makes high-level managerial decisions difficult.
Cons
This is a system integrator, so if you are an engineer looking for interesting technical work look elsewhere. Also, there is no grace here if there is a budget cut by the DoD. You'll be given 2-4 weeks to find another position in Lockheed. If you can't (and 2 weeks is hardly enough time), then you are out the door--just like any place else these days.
Pros
Gain experience with prestigious federal government agencies
Lockheed locations and contract employment are typically in great locations with plenty of amenities in surrounding areas
Cons
Project managers are completely out of touch with contractors and have no idea what the contractors duties truly entail.
Advice to Senior Management
PM's need to care as much about pleasing employees as they do about pleasing clients. Everyone is watching.
Pros
Lockheed Martin does have a good benefits package as well as vacation time comparable to other defense contractors. They also have a decent understanding of work-life balance depending on your job title.
Cons
Lockheed Martin tends to make its employees feel like they should be grateful for having a job. They do not give out raises, cost of living increases or any sort of compensation for great performance reviews
Advice to Senior Management
Reward your people for a job well done or else they will go elsewhere. Top performers will be always be able to find a job somewhere else for more money.
Pros
Standard 9-5 job without an aggressive work environment.
Many lifers at this company without much talent
Many job opportunities in different cities within the USA
Cons
Poor salary
Poor room for growth salary wise
No stock options given
The pension enrollment used to be automatic, but recently requires 2 year buy-in
Advice to Senior Management
Their is no incentive to exceed and become a rockstar at this company. You go to work there to milk a weekly pay check. You patent a product and you receive a "small bonus" or perhaps a "star award", its insulting.
Pros
Every other Friday off, which is amazing for weekend trips
3 weeks vacation, flex time, lots of holidays
Comraderie from the decent number of young people (not proportionally, but just because there are so many people)
Cons
Raises are comical, and the marginal reward you get for a job well done is definitely not worth it. They pay "market rate", which means they will never pay that much.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing really. The business model works for what you want it to do, but just don't expect to retain top talent.
Pros
Good business ethics applied to leadership as well as the employee. Huge emphasis on diversity, workplace safety, etc. Very supportive of the individual employee and their health. Free health club bennie in addition to the normal benefits.
Cons
When your contract ends, be ready to move to another city for a LM job or be ready for lay off if you can't.
Advice to Senior Management
LM should work more diligently to ensure contracts are properly renewed. Pay more attention to employees who are close to the client. The provide valuable insight.
Pros
Good benefits, important work, good salary.
Cons
High emphasis on results and expectation to work long hours.
Pros
Leading edge technologies, excellent program environments, performance-driven programs and success-oriented teams
Cons
Because of the critical nature of the techologies, products, services and programs, proven experience is a prerequisite to progress into higher levels of management. This is not a fast-track environment.
Pros
Cross-functional opportunities
If you are good, you will be taken care of
Cons
One merit pool foe entire company
Pros
Friendly people, patriotic mission, large company
Cons
Huge company, bureaucratic, slow feedback cycle
