27 years at LM - Times have changed

    Various Titles (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsBack in the Cold War days, we made *lots* of influencing products - Often very innovative, highly integrated, and effective...

ConsAt some point along the way, processes & profits became "more" important than the product - Not bad if your a shareholder but the product cutting edge

Advice to Senior ManagementWe used to put the products first and the processes and profits would fall into place - When you put profits and processes ahead of products, the products become mundane... Mundane products isn't what Lockheed was about....

    Decent company to work for

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsWork with a lot of good people. Very laid back and friendly atmosphere.

ConsManagement doesn't listen the people doing the work. A lot of wasteful spending.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen the people that are doing the work everyday.

    Poor management in aerospace (Orion)

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

    ProsReceiving your check on time

ConsBlatant unequal & unethical treatment of employees working in the same department by mangagement.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement a value added process whereby employees can fairly rate managers and hold them accountable to conducting ethical business and management principles. I should mention names, but remain hopeful this company will improve their management style.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Great for starting job

    Senior Electrical Engineer (Former Employee)

Pros- Great for the first job and getting good training.
    - Great locations.
    - So-So Benefits

    Cons- Low Salaries
    - Always worries of lay-offs due to sequestration

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't low cut good employees on performance reviews.

Sad, but it was time to go...

    Senior Systems Engineer (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsWe puled off incredibly technically challenging accomplishments and dealt with risk head on - Where others would fear to tread.

ConsRapid promotion and advancements based on accomplishment made it difficult to compete in the local markets when it was over.

Advice to Senior ManagementNone necessary - Reading the Corporate Annual Report, I believe they already know the status of aerospace in Houston.

    Lockheed Martin

    Senior Systems Engineer (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsThis company offers flex time to their employees on most contracts ( when possible), and promotes balance between their employee's lives and the workplace . Don't get me wrong - employees are expected to step up and work VERY HARD when it comes to deadlines and deliverables. LM also promotes from within when possible. They also have an advanced leadership program for ambitious employees. This is a highly ethical company that embraces diversity.

ConsAll of Lockheed's work is contract based -so layoffs can be common and frequent. But they try to place employees in other jobs, if they are willing to travel or take a lesser positions. After being laid off once, I was re-hired. Current crunch with Fed real funding could impact company's future profit and opportunity.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't use all the "corporate-ease" to communicate with us - just speak English.

    Great Company to work for

Computer Opns Spt Analyst (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsFlexible schedules, multiple locations for jobs (if you are willing to move around the country), benefits are pretty decent. The culture is laid back, at least in my area,

ConsGovernment contractor - so this means with each new administration you have to be prepared for changes in your contract or budget. This was my first job out of college but I'm not sure how people stay here for 20+ years when every 4 years your program can be scrutinized and/or canceled. The good thing is that LM has many different areas of the country they operate in so if you are young you can just get up and move around quite easily.

Lockheed does a Disservice to Employees and Provides Little Career Growth

Systems Integration & Test Engineer (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

    ProsGood benefits
Work Life Balance - the pace is slow but this allows you to not be overworked. 9/80 schedules are nice
    Good location across from NASA

ConsPut new employees fresh out of college in Houston while direct managers were based in Denver. Little contact between new members and rest of team. Led to great inefficiencies.

    Slow pace
