I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time

    Pros

    Receiving your check on time

    Cons

Blatant unequal & unethical treatment of employees working in the same department by mangagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement a value added process whereby employees can fairly rate managers and hold them accountable to conducting ethical business and management principles. I should mention names, but remain hopeful this company will improve their management style.

    I worked at Lockheed Martin

    Pros

This review is for Lockheed Space Systems Company - I worked there for 3 years out of college

    A variety of benefits
    *Strong benefit package
*Pay is comparable with the aerospace industry
*Great time off - 9/80 schedule
*Has some of the best contracts in the industry

    Cons

The huge downside is the bureaucracy. They sent me and all of the other 40 or so new hires to Houston, TX...when the entire management team was in Denver. As a college hire, my manager, lead, and the rest of the team (except for a few other new hires) were all in Denver. Needless to say, this meant that my development and my opportunities were hindered.

The bureaucracy that allowed such a set-up to occur showed itself in other ways. Work was done slowly and projects were consistently behind schedule. It seemed that for every person doing real work, there were about 3 people just sitting around. This made it hard to get real work that develops skills and it made promotions and development opportunities hard to come by. I definitely don't recommend Lockheed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your teams small so that they can stay lean and efficient.

    Pros

    Good benefits
Work Life Balance - the pace is slow but this allows you to not be overworked. 9/80 schedules are nice
    Good location across from NASA

    Cons

Put new employees fresh out of college in Houston while direct managers were based in Denver. Little contact between new members and rest of team. Led to great inefficiencies.

    Slow pace

    Pros

Established in the Space Industry. Flexible schedules. Great emphasis on health and benefits are comparable.

Not much information on job opportunities, old school attitude, don't like change in process, Management not very employee oriented.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There is an undeniable thrill at the thought of working for Lockheed Martin, one of the big folks in the space industry. The people are generally really good people. The company--depending upon WHICH division you work for--can treat their people poorly. They are very flexible for work hours which is wonderful and they don't generally micromanage, another major plus. But overall, within a small number of years working here, the life will be sucked out of you, as will your love and admiration of NASA.

    Cons

Their salary rating is a joke. They have a comp ratio system. Let's say your pay range for your job title is 50,000 - 70,000. If you are making near the 50k, you 'compensation ratio' is low, so you'll get a raise every year, usually. If you are at 60k then you're at the middle of your pay range and your comp ratio is 1, therefore, unless you're absolutely effing spectacular, your raise is zero. So how is this the middle of the 'payrange' when you pretty much can't get past the halfway point. And that includes no cost of living increase so you actually end up making less...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Every division has different benefits and if you're in one of the 'poor' companies, its very demoralizing. And the comp ratio brilliance is just flat out insulting.
