    Pros

Massive company with lots of reach back. They do some pretty cool stuff and it's interesting to get exposed to it all.

    Cons

Massive company, you're a cog in the machine. They're tenacious about pursuing business and expect a lot of their Biz Dev staff.

  2. Not a bad place to work, however management's ridiculous tasks and the stress level aren't worth the little pay.

    Pros

Telecommuting, ability to set one's own schedule, and a suitable work-life balance.

    Cons

Management is often petty, assigns pointless tasks with little or no notice, the pay isn't close to being competitive for a quality engineer with some experience.

    Advice to Management

Promotions do not come nearly as often as they should, meetings often become a competition to have one's voice heard the most often and the loudest.

    Pros

Systems are technically advanced for an enterprise organization, technology consumption is huge which opens vendor doors wide, the company's heritage precedes you and usually establishes a level of credibility that can only be lost.

    Cons

The company was rampant with politically correct position holders with lots of cover for inept decision makers, difficulties in attracting and retaining high-caliber junior staff result in some mediocre work getting passed in order to stick to schedules.

    Advice to Management

    Forget diversity, value results.

    Pros

LockMart's the biggest defense contractor, and generally does well in both boom and bust cycles. It's a big company, so there are the usual big-company perks. Plenty of room for advancement and a lot of opportunity for internal moves.

    Cons

It's a big company. Just read pretty much any Dilbert cartoon.

    Advice to Management

Your people are smarter and more mature than you give them credit for. Mostly.

    Pros

Interesting programs and projects. The company is always on the cutting edge.

    Cons

Changing retirement and medical benifits every few years.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more and listen from the bottom up. The people at the bottom know a lot more than you give them credit for.
