I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

A very interesting place to work on cutting edge aircraft systems. Great camaraderie between teams and individuals you work with. Excellent opportunities for advancement, depending on your manager. The work you do makes a real difference for our national security and the success and safety of our fighting men and women.

    Cons

Hard to get promotions/raises if your manager is not pro-active. Getting to know many different indicviduals can be difficult because of the closed (classified) environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and align management with the folks on the programs, so that they have a better idea of what the employee actually does, and what value they bring.

I worked at Lockheed Martin as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Lockheed is a great company to work for. I was a summer software intern and the experience was awesome. I gained a lot of experience developing software and working on a team. Even though I was an intern, I was treated as a professional and I was given serious work. Everyone acted as a mentor for me and I was able to really put my skills to the test. I was paid well and I was also offered a tentative full time position after I graduate. There is also plenty of room for growth and they allowed me to perform tasks that I was interested in learning about. Also hours were great especially with flex time allowing me to come whenever I wanted between 7-9 AM as long as I put in 9 hours a day and I got every other Friday off.

    Cons

For me being a very young worker, the corporate culture was different from what many companies are beginning to move towards. It was very conservative and a majority of the workers were older people who had been there long. The cube life can get boring sometimes and social interaction is kept at a minimum.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Only thing I would advise is to loosen up a bit but I think it might be hard given the nature of the work.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pay and benefits are very good, people are professional, intelligent, educated and try to do a great job. Ethics are important to the company and therefore, to the employees. Upward mobility is possible if you learn the Lockheed way, work hard, perform above expectations and work on high profile projects--where management pays attention.

    Cons

The company is so large that they need lots of policies and procedures and metrics to manage the place. Sometimes metrics are one-size fits all, even when the metrics don't apply to the work you're doing. It is a very large company and is difficult to get recognized if you're doing routine, mundane work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Balance between metrics and judgment when assessing the employee's performance is necessary. Metrics cannot account for all the work done by a buyer.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Reliable company where high level management cared as much about their employees as they do their clients/customers and the bottom line. The company adapts well to the changing economic and environment. The lower management is super! Never had a bad thing to say about any of my managers. Of course, all were former military, as I, who knew how to manage.

Perks were as good as the government laws would allow. Many clients also extended significant discounts to LM employees, i.e. Dell, General Motors, etc.

Benefits were as good or better than competitors. Education benefits were great.

Corporate ethics were the same from top to bottom, "High Standards"

    Cons

As in all BIG corporations there are problems, lay-offs, etc.
