    Cons

I had twelve years with some highs and lows, but I feel it was better than many companies their size.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Huge company, jobs everywhere if you looked, would reward people to stay

    Cons

HR was pretty poor (missed sending a letter for life insurance), there was no work/home balance. I had a 98 hour work week once with no overtime or bonus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your employees more. Never hound them to respond to email 24 hours a day. Remember, they are what make you look good or bad.

I worked at Lockheed Martin as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

I learned quite a bit from working with the engineers. I learned far more from Level 1 and 2 engineers than I ever did from my supervisors or managers.

    Cons

They program for interns in Ocala was underdeveloped and I spent months doing nothing but menial tasks before I was finally given some actual engineering tasks. I also got paid less than other interns because I was farther from a graduation date even though I had more experience than many of them.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Unmatched opportunities to propose and execute highly innovative, highly complex space flight hardware development projects, both research investigation projects for NASA and technology demonstration projects for other government agencies.

    Cons

Initial "one size fits all" approach to business and engineering process implementation was a mistake that has yet to be undone. Senior management was reluctant to accept higher potential risk for significant cost and efficiency benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow and enable the proven teams at the ATC to experiment with lower cost and more agile processes on the smaller NASA research and other technology demonstration projects. Find a way to better shield these groups with demonstrated successful experience from the processes necessary to the larger company.

    I worked at Lockheed Martin

    Pros

They have a good culture for professionals. They hire within when they are able. Plenty of room for growth and movement. Ethics are important to them, and they have a hotline for when you have issues. Management is encouraged to be helpful and look for issues in the process, not necessarily in the person. They allowed me to work from home several days a week because of my long commute and need to pick up my kids from school.

    Cons

Management did not spend the money in the past for keep the commercial satellite business up to speed with technology. They emphasized the importance with government jobs. When the government stopped spending as much, they suddenly realized that they needed to updated their commercial design. It was too late, and a number of years went by without winning any programs. In the end, they decided to move the business to Denver. This was short-sightedness on their part, but probably the right thing to do at this point. Hopefully, they will find success in Denver.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't always follow the money. Consider the whole picture and what could happen in years from now. Plan for the future.

    Pros

Opportunities to work on different projects.

    Cons

Sometimes slow to respond to changes in business environment, but not moreso than other large tech companies I have worked for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some workers get bored when they stop learning. Keep them in the company by making it easier to move from one job to another within the company.
