I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I love the 9x80 work week, I also have the ability to come in whenever Id like which is really nice. I have a lot of opportunities to travel, which is possible because of Lockheed's large budget and extensive list of business partners. The company really tries to take care of its customers with good health benefits/incentives, discount programs, credit unions, the list goes on. LM is very active in the surrounding communities with volunteering and reaching out to youth.

    Cons

The yearly LM commit performance reviews are somewhat annoying but it seems like most large companies are doing something similar. With my job, I sometimes have to be on call for emergencies or at times am scheduled to work critical events in the middle of the night.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin

    Pros

Great company, good leadership, excellent leadership development and career development programs. Excellent mission overall at all levels. I work in compliance and thoroughly enjoy working with the professionals in my department and across all functional areas every day.

    Cons

Not really a 'con', but something to be aware of: because of the critical nature of our mission, Lockheed is heavily process oriented. There are many procedures, quality checks, reporting processes, and other administrative requirements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest that there needs to be a more near-term career path for young professionals. Many recent graduates find themselves in departments with quite a few 30-year veterans. While this is great for mentoring, it limits near-term advancement potential unless the young professional has a strong career development plan and is willing to relocate.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin

    Pros

Strong solid company that is stable for the most part. As long as the government is somewhat stable. There are a lot of intelligent people that work there and the work life balance is very manageable at the Individual Contributor level. If you want a good stable job with good experience this is a great environment.

    Cons

Typical Cons of a Government Contractor. Culture is very slow moving and you sometimes have to work with unmotivated employees. The annual increases are relatively low and you have to fight for any increases outside the normal cycle. Promotions are typically based on years of experience instead of performance unless you make a good relationship with a manager that has power. Management is very political and this gets in the way of the teams trying to do work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at the culture you are creating for the various teams. The politics you encourage cause harm.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great satisfaction with the mission supporting a variety of US Government customers. High potential employees receive good training opportunities and advancement in a career is possible.

    Cons

Lots of stress and hours caused by unrealistic customer and managerial expectations. Pay is near the bottom of the market and benefits are being reduced.
