It was a good learning experience and a place to get a good "big company" foundation and perspective.

    Pros

Big company with many locations, if you need/want to move somewhere it's possible to find work without leaving the company.
Good place to learn policies and live within a culture of best practices

    Cons

Upward movement is difficult and because of its size you are "sheltered" from the opportunity to see and participate in the bigger picture many times. Difficult to advance as a high performer with no gray area in the HR policies and current movement to de-level many senior personnel.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Better than average compensation. The people who stay tend to stay for a very long time. Your experience depends on what business area/program you work for. HQ tends to be a little more modern while some of the other divisions might have mgmt. techniques that date back to the Mad Men era. Very tolerant of telecommuting- although it seems to be pulling back a bit on this recently. Most coworkers are competent, pleasant and good to work with- but again this could depend on which program you are on.

    Cons

Company is not afraid to reorganize organizational structure and shuffle mgmt. I basically get a new boss and/or department every 18 months (or sooner). This does not allow for much workforce stability or long term strategic planning. Congressional budget issues and sequestration are a big concern and as a result, company has been downsizing across the board to cut costs. Just read the papers and you will see facilities are being closed and layoffs enacted.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Tons of leadership training, ability to transfer within the company, solid and clear path to promotion, especially at junior levels. Met some great managers and engineers. Strongly motivate leaders to mentor others and it is a team atmosphere, not competitive within. Definitely recommend, especially to young career folks or those who like the structure and stability of a large company. Plus the stock has been killing it lately in the market.

    Cons

Federal budgets are declining and therefore LM budgets too - they have been tightening belt and doing layoffs. Not a fast pace of change. Depends on what work you do and what you're interested in, but I never really liked the whole "blowing stuff up" part of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IS&GS policy on telecommuters paying for their own travel took this high-pot outside the company.

    Cons

When project ends, your on your own. Very little effort made to retain talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees and do more to retain them when a contract ends.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They are one of the biggest contractors in the Government why many positions to offer at competitive pay rates.

    Cons

Very confusing business practices that create communication issue between coworkers and management. Very poor health insurance and vacation benefits and very minimal incentive bonuses and raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micro managing and delegating all your work load and just hire more workforce with less management and assistant managers. Lockmatin concentrates to much at the management level instead of the true workforce doing the work that way downsizing because wages wont be needed.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lockheed has been consistent in keeping me employed, although, the compensation is a bit low, and hard to increase.

    Cons

The promotion rate is slow, their performance reviews are mostly for window dressing, and filling out the evaluations seems to fit neatly into their checked box type of management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the managers relevant to their reports. Having a matrix style of management is quite useless, except for the checked box type of management used. Basically, it comes down to; Do you have a manager? Yes, check the box. Does the manager help in any way? No, check the box.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Above average pay and good benefits. Up to 2014 was a stable company to work for,

    Cons

Once you are in your 50's it is all over for you. You will not be allowed to learn anything new,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop writing off older employees. You will more years out of someone in their 50's then will you will get out of someone in their 20's. Younger people quit very easily.
