    Best place to work ever.

    ProsIt is a family owned company and they treat all of the associates here like family. Even during the hard financial times a few years back when there was a lot of layoff's in Kansas City, Lockton did not lay anyone off. They prefer to retain the associates. There are not many companies in KC much less the US that look at the associates that way.

    It could be a great place to work!

    ProsLockton's reputation among its client base is excellent. Education is highly valued and encouraged. I enjoy working with the majority of the people in my unit. For the most part, they all strive to provide great customer service and high quality work. The daily atmosphere is friendly and caring. I have developed strong relationships there.

    ConsWorkloads are large and can be overwhelming. Expectations are often unreasonably high. If you do a great job and give 110% every day, you are given more work and 150% is expected. Leadership says, "You're awesome", but when you go to them with an issue mostly lip-service is offered. Action is either non-existent or very, very slow.

    Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management and producers need to be aware and better informed about the happenings in each of the units. Evaluate the current leadership to determine their effectiveness. Make swift changes that would positively impact your employees.

    ConsThe company rewards incompetent employees. There is a difference in treatment from one employee to another. True in other places, but in a smaller company, it is more obvious.

    Backward technology and IT personnel worst attitude ever- IT doesn't support IPAD, I phone and blames any issues on our personal equipment instead of finding a solution

    Advice to Senior ManagementYou have meetings with people under 35 and you don't follow through at all with findings or results. Nothing changes! What is the use of having a meeting? Do you think it will help with employee retention to throw us a party after work but disregard suggestions to improve productivity and the environment? You also have some real dinosaurs in management. They either should keep up with technology or get out

    ProsGrowing company with a lot of career advancement opportunities. Culture features a very flat reporting structure that allows associates to work with all different levels of individuals throughout the company and provide meaningful information to support the growth of the company.

    ConsAs the company grows and the management team changes, it is difficult for long time employees to demonstrate value to new managers while continuing to perform the function and responsibilities expected.

    Good People, Obvious steps to moving up the ladder, still has a men's club vibe in management

    Pros-Promotes training and classes in an effort to promote from within and move people up
    -Happy people, hard workers
    -Good atmosphere overall
    -Definitely supprts the live service mottp - clients come first

    Cons-Pay is on the low scale
    -Upper management maintains an old "men's club" vibe with few women in the same roles
    -Micro management does come from coworkers who mainly do not know previous arrangements or agreements between the boss and employee
    -Long hours

    Advice to Senior Management-Pay scale should at least be in line with the market
    -More flexibility is needed when it comes to working remote. Lockton has a great remote system is in place, but only some people are able to take full advantage of it, while it is frowned upon for others. People today are expected to do more things with less help and with the cost of daycare, some people has more to handle than others. Lockton needs to be moving forward with technological advances and working remotely should be one of those advances. Ideally, this would decrease overhead as less permanent spaces in the office (plus equipment, supplies, etc.) would be needed.
    As long as lockton hires the right people and has faith in them, there should be no reason that working remote isn't acceptable across the board.

    Good for the most part, but watch out for nasty office politics

    ProsMost of the client facing associates work very very hard to deliver a consistently high quality service to clients. It’s for the most part a highly professional environment and business is placed in the right way (i.e. there are no dubious incentives to move business to one particular market etc).

    There are many good internal resources and talented people in other teams, but each department is so cut off from each other that it can take time to identify that, but when you do find them it's great.

    It’s a good place to be if you have the skills and knowledge to jump straight into the busy work environment, and promotion prospects are good. Some of the management are very talented, dedicated people.

    Very good with charity and wider community support if that's your thing and the training opportunities (well organised centrally by HR) are fantastic.

    Great social scene, and many opportunities to get out and about with clients, underwriters etc, regardless of your level of experience.

    ConsWay too much micro management, more trust of the (for the most part) very talented associates is needed. Some nasty office politics from some (but not all) management. Working my notice was not a pleasurable experience.

    A lot of 'deadwood' in senior management, who are paid a fortune for doing not very much, but the talented middle management don't dare make a noise for fear of hurting their own promotion chances.

    It is expected of you to work long hours or take work home to get everything done, and this is seen as the norm and perfectly acceptable on a daily basis. Work / Life balance is poor and new staff are only brought in when existing teams are at absolute breaking point.

    Insane bureaucracy that's incredibly outdated. MRC slips and cover notes for policies that are a couple of hundred quid is just bonkers and wastes so much time.

    Some (but not all) of the systems are very outdated, and it has woefully poor IT generally for such a large company.

    Training is poor for new starters because no one has the time to do it. It's not a good place to start an insurance or broking career.

    You're won't be employed if you're a married woman at or near child bearing age. How this happens in 2014 I have no idea. More diversity is definitely needed.

    Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the deadwood clinging on at the top and distribute their money lower down the organisation.

    Reduce the bureaucracy and double keying of everything and trust your associates more / give them breathing space to do their jobs (and hire new staff before work is at breaking point).

    If you expect all associates to put in the extra hours, you need to make sure you're paying them for it (compensation is not the best).
