    Pros

Free parking. Free cafeteria. Great location. Newly renovated rooms and hotel. Pet friendly hotel. Technology focused hotel positioned to utilize mobile technologies to make guest request easier and enhance the guest experience. Reservation center local and able to assist with reservations.

    Cons

Upper Management manages via revenue and numbers and doesn't get to know its people. High turnover. Training very poor. Lack of positive feedback and recognition. Lack of constructive feedback and coaching. Managers are not available and spend hours in meetings with Executive team.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your staff personally. Be open for feedback from staff. Listen to your staff's needs.

    Pros

Middle Generation family members are very thoughtful and encouraging.
Most people who work there really enjoy it.
The company pays on the high side of the normal range

    Cons

The company is run like a family business, where nepotism trumps capability and fairness.
Internal politics often reward aggressive or sneaky types, over the best and most thoughtful employees.
Folks are afraid to adopt change or upset the apple cart, either for fear or running afoul of the politics, and risk losing their jobs, or because they don't see any upside in taking such risks. The result is a lot of CYA mediocrity

    Advice to Management

Require all family members to work for a decade or more elsewhere, so they have some credibility when they arrive.
Bring in outside leadership, as the 3rd generation is not going to be ready by working in-house.
Develop more quantitative, 360 degree review measures, so the annual reviews are less of a boss pleasing popularity contest and more of a measurement of successes and failures, with a map towards improvement.

    Pros

Co-workers are the best. There is always something to do in this ast-paced environment. They provide benefits for part-time employees.

    Cons

A lot of improvement at the management level. Salaries are fixed, no room for negotiation. Information is not shared across departments.

    Pros

Get to travel throughout the country and possibly internationally. Most of the staff are easy going and nice to get a long with. The hours are very friendly. Very rarely do you leave past 6 pm.

    Cons

The turnover is very high. Management plays the office politics game a little too much. The places you travel domestically aren't attractive locations (mostly outside of Houston, Oklahoma, Louisiana) and are typically two week audits. I was told that travel would be approximately 20% of the time but was actually over 50%. Compensation is not that high and management does not care for the staff that much.

    Advice to Management

I would recommend that they do not talk behind others backs as often as they do. Treat employees with more respect so they do not leave after 8 months and create a schedule that is more than two weeks in advance.

    Pros

Risk takers but also follow SOPs, great National Sales Team that always had customer events - lots of travel, really recognize top earnings and treat you well, great bonus program, great product, everyone was treated equal - Corporate really take interest in their employees and treat you very well and [generally] an amazing experince.

    Cons

Watch out for corporate politics, very long hours; also, there seems to be some disconnect between some properties and corporate management. Also, just make sure you keep record of everything and always be very direct; back everything up in email!

    Advice to Management

Make sure you think things through and do not act/react on your emotions (property specific advice)
