I worked at London Borough of Barking & Dagenham full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Flexible working arrangements including ability to work from home, hotdesk in various locations depending on role and need. Generally very understanding management. Interesting role and tasks. Diverse geographical region so many fresh challenges. Forward looking council.

    Cons

Transport links were ok but not great, particularly in some areas of Dagenham. Usual local authority issues such as poor performance management of less productive staff members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Performance manage better. Develop good staff better, appreciate and value experience, it's extremely important. Reward those who go the extra mile. Get rid of less motivated staff

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook

I worked at London Borough of Barking & Dagenham

    Pros

Good work life balance. Would suit someone with family responsibilities. Also there's quite a lot of training that gets provided (though not all of it is useful).

    Cons

Lot of politics. You won't get any respect unless you are a senior manager. No direction or guidance given to employees. Very difficult to move to higher positions unless you know the right contacts and have very high visibility. Nothing works on merit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to have a vision and make work more meaningful for employees

    Doesn't Recommend
