I have been working at London Health Sciences Centre full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good group of physicians, nurses, NP's, etc. who are all dedicated to quality patient care. Attempting to be innovative and on the cutting edge of new health care strategies and technology

    Cons

Somewhat administration heavy, need to do a clean sweep of under-performing staff to help get budget under control. There are things that simply don't make sense i.e. making people wait in a coffee line for 20 minutes, when they could be served, and back to work in 5 if they cafeteria was staffed appropriately. You have the most highly paid staff being served by some of the lowest paid staff but they are totally understaffed - huge waste of time and money on the hospitals part! Getting into management is impossible without knowing the right people, many times it does not appear to be performance or merit based, simply who you know and are friends with.

    Advice to Management

Provide adequate funding for projects before agreeing to do them. If needed start more rigorous reviews of staff and their contributions. I have personally seen many people shuffled from job to job as opposed to being let go due to bad performance - while projects suffer understaffing and fail or are run poorly due to it.

    Pros

There are many attempts to make it nice here, they have exercise, discounts at certain retailers,

    Cons

the food and parking is super expensive. parking is about 50 bucks a month and the food is terrible. there is only 2 communal microwaves in the cafeteria as well (many people use their own in the office though)

    Advice to Management

overall, decent. I worked in other hospitals in Toronto and can say its similar.

I have been working at London Health Sciences Centre full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Has everything to offer and more if only the right management decisions were made.

    Cons

To many layers of management. Management completely out of touch with the workforce and the functioning of the departments. Poor decision making and poor leadership follows from that. Very political and career advancement not based on merits.

    Advice to Management

If you do not understand your own department the place will never function the way it should and could to its fullest potential.

I have been working at London Health Sciences Centre part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with. Caring and supportive workplace for the mostpart

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy / politics. Just let people do their jobs. If you have a part time job there you cannot pick up another part time job with the company. Anything over 24 hours is considered a Union position. If you work part time - you can only apply for full time, a position with more hours or casual work.
