Pros
Although on the low scale - fair salary, and excellent benefits-medical, dental, vision, prescription, life insurance, pension and 401K/457 Plans. With hard work it is an environment that can lead to success. The employees are dedicated, professional, compassionate, loyal and they demonstrate core values. If you lead by example, you will be successful and be the benefactor of employees who will help you and work for you.
Cons
The pay scales are lower than private companies and other MTA agencies. The career path, growth and advancement are solely the responsibility of the employee. Uncompensated extra hours at work or at home are expected to be successful and to stay ahead of work load and the endless oversight from upper management and outside agencies and political officials.
Advice to Senior Management
Demonstrate the Core Values that you expect from your employees and when they ask for help - give them help - not more work.
Pros
well you usually don't have to work that hard. and the benefits are pretty good. plus the pension is reasonable
Cons
Robs you of motivation. It seems that most management is incompetent. Things never seem to be done correctly just people winging it.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a professional in that knows what they are doing. Actually survey and observe a major project. Provide the proper knowledge and equipment to your foremen. Listen to the mechanics on their ideas and don't just shoo their thoughts off.
