Great place to work with competitive salary

Summer Intern (Current Employee) Jamaica, NY

Prosdecent management, stable employment, interesting work, competitive compensation. It largely depends on department, engineering is a huge plus with plenty of work.

ConsSlow professional growth, some complacent co-workers, employees don't often get "let-go". It is very difficult to change policies as well as go beyond "the book"

Advice to Senior Managementpay more attention ro performance and learn to let people go

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

A HORRIBLE but GREAT PAYING place to work. Socialism and affirmative action run amok!

Transportation Manager (Former Employee) Jamaica, NY

ProsGreat opportunities to advance to high paying, secure positions. Great pension. Fun and interesting work if you can ignore the politics and managers who know nothing about railroading.

ConsThe place is run by political hacks with no ability, knowledge or motivation. Managed to maximize expenditure of tax money which funds the place. Hiring based strictly on affirmative action "goals" with incompetence running wild. Little to no oversight of money or payroll.

Advice to Senior ManagementLeave and offer your jobs to people with railroad, mechanical, or human resource experience. Stop calling your employees "crooks" in the media and issuing press releases that complain of the poor job your employees do. Scrap affirmative action and hire people who speak english and will come to work three days in a row.

If it was easy anybody could do it!

Director-FA Management (Former Employee) Jamaica, NY

ProsAlthough on the low scale - fair salary, and excellent benefits-medical, dental, vision, prescription, life insurance, pension and 401K/457 Plans. With hard work it is an environment that can lead to success. The employees are dedicated, professional, compassionate, loyal and they demonstrate core values. If you lead by example, you will be successful and be the benefactor of employees who will help you and work for you.

ConsThe pay scales are lower than private companies and other MTA agencies. The career path, growth and advancement are solely the responsibility of the employee. Uncompensated extra hours at work or at home are expected to be successful and to stay ahead of work load and the endless oversight from upper management and outside agencies and political officials.

Advice to Senior ManagementDemonstrate the Core Values that you expect from your employees and when they ask for help - give them help - not more work.

    Perfect for the lazy man

    B&B Mechanic (Current Employee)

Proswell you usually don't have to work that hard. and the benefits are pretty good. plus the pension is reasonable

ConsRobs you of motivation. It seems that most management is incompetent. Things never seem to be done correctly just people winging it.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a professional in that knows what they are doing. Actually survey and observe a major project. Provide the proper knowledge and equipment to your foremen. Listen to the mechanics on their ideas and don't just shoo their thoughts off.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
