I worked at Lonza Biologics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Upper management was very open and communicative regarding the over all company strategy and vision. Decisions seemed to have been made for good reason. The medical, dental, and vision care benefits were very good. Annual bonus plan was pretty fairly executed.

    Cons

Office culture was off base in that while trying to treat everyone the same, management neglected the fact that different jobs required different resources (like a quiet workspace for example). Career development was low priority. There was very little sense of ownership for projects, no going the extra mile, just only doing what the customer asked and paid for and nothing more, even if it would add value to the process. People working on manufacturing and testing drug products didn't even take time to know what the drugs were meant to treat. Too many promises made by contract managers without verifying adequate resources to fulfill.

I have been working at Lonza Biologics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are really good - 401K, medical, tuition reimbursement. Convenient location. Safety is valued and training is important and detailed. Emphasis is placed on new ideas.

    Cons

Poor management and no support from HR. No communication to employees. Compensation could be better for the ever increasing level of output required for each position. There is not much room for growth in some departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employee's opinions. This could be the key to keeping good people with the company.

I worked at Lonza Biologics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, in the beginning there was lots of opportunity for advancement. Great benefits; fantastic health and dental insurance, great 401K contribution program. Well run safety program. The new suites were fantastic until the contamination.

    Cons

Old equipment repair was only a temporary fix. The equipment needed to be replaced but it was not in the budget. The new equipment was fantastic, but too many dead legs in the system lead to contamination.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you set up a suite listen to the employees on the floor. They want to do a good job and have contributions that will help the company in the future.

I have been working at Lonza Biologics

    Pros

Lonza is a CMO with a high turnover of customer projects. It gives you high exposure to different manufacturing processes. It is a great place to learn.

    Cons

The downside of the high turnover of customer projects is that you will have to work under tremendous time stress. In addition, there has been a lot of organizational changes in the recent years.
