I have been working at Lord & Taylor

    Pros

The schedules are flexible. Most receiving associates only work one weekend per month. Managers do a great job with scheduling to balance work and life.

    Cons

There is no opportunity for advancement. The management training program ended a few years ago. Managers constantly cut hours. If an associate finishes their work early, they are sent home.

    Pros

    -The people you work with
    -Decent employee discount

    Cons

-General Managers often go unchecked by their superiors. Some GMs are great, some of them are totally abusive
-Advancement is based on politics and appearance
-Corporate management is often clueless about what happens in the stores or what would be beneficial to the stores
-The company overall is antiquated and can't compete with the current retail market

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Lord & Taylor full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Learned a lot since they overwork people and understaff. Expect people to do about 2-3 peoples jobs and shame you if you do not get something done.

    Cons

Treat employees like second grade citizens, they have disgusting offices and expect people to work in horrible conditions. Very unprofessional HR, have never seen anything like it.
Company in general on every level plays the blame game- no accountability from anyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a new HR department and hire more staff that have some experience.
