I worked at Lord & Taylor part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Negotiated a higher rate from the beginning. Coworkers were great. Atmosphere was great. Each day was different.

    Cons

Pay IS low. Excessive turnover. Pushing numbers on associates. Associates get away with too much. Not enough coverage. No raises for on call employees. Values aren't upheld anymore. Store changed drastically in 8 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

The GM, Mindy Horvitz, is a true asset to Lord & Taylor and mentor to me. Her team is always there to help and support all customers and associates.

    Cons

Although having received a raise, there seems to be low salary limitations and potential full time restrictions as an assistant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management team at the Boca store goes above and beyond everyday to better the team and store.

I worked at Lord & Taylor part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

For a retail position, I liked working at L&T. Very nice clothing and apparel, handbags, jewelry. I would float between those departments, which I liked. Always something new to learn when you're a floater. Working with designer goodies is fun. My employee discount was nice too.

    Cons

Some of the managers were uptight, but other than that, it was fine. It just depends on the group of people with whom you are working.

Their software is completely outdated. You need to pay them back your hourly rate before you receive commission, .

It is great for a part time job for students. Not really a good place for a career.

I worked at Lord & Taylor part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Easy and fun-loving job. Fun and friendly environment. The environment and coworkers are what's most enjoyable about the job. If you are a student who is in need of money or beefing up their resume, this is the job for you. Majority of the customers are sweet and loving.

    Cons

Not a good place for a career. Not a money making job either. You will have one horrible manager out of the six managers that you have there. After all, managers for Lord & Taylor are usually just people who put in the most years in the company. Don't worry because managers are easily transferred or fired if someone complains about them. Some rude and idiotic customers, but only a few a day.

I worked at Lord & Taylor full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The training for the position was conducted over a few weeks and provided ample opportunities to ask questions and address concerns before taking full control of the workflow. Management were supportive and did not micro-manage the office. They provided workers with autonomy and only intervened when support was necessary.

    Cons

The salary was far below what would be expected for the amount of work that was performed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Research similar positions with other companies and compensate staff accordingly.
