    Pros

Some of the nicest people I've ever worked with. Most people have been with this company for many years and are dedicated to ensuring it's success.

    Cons

Very limited road for professional growth opportunities. Mired in the "good ole boy" mentality. Lacks solid leadership from upper management and middle management perspective.

I have been working at Lorillard full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company does allow you to leave to handle family emergencies without providing any notice. However, this benefit is dependent on your manager and some managers pressure their people to disregard their families.

    Cons

Lack of advancement opportunity. Apathy of management for employee concerns. The higher level layers of management are growing, but the number of lower level employees doing the work are diminishing.

    Advice to Management

If you don't care about employee opinion, it is less insulting to not ask than to ask and ignore.

I worked at Lorillard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, company car, nice benefits.

    Cons

You will work at home as much as you do on the job, management will lie to you, training in Chicago was a joke, they cram so much down your throat in two weeks you will have a stroke, then once you get in the field you realize they really didn't teach you much, before you get hired you will have a one day ride along with the DM in which you will drive, we changed pricing and some small signage but wasn't shown the real work of having to carry 20' steel ladders and climb to the ceiling to change signs monthly, which is constant because you have over 200 stores, work outside hanging coreX signs in sub zero temps and rain. They don't teach you where to find things you will need on your computer, you need to have above average math skills.

    Advice to Management

Upper management will make lower management lie. Watch your back and take pictures of your work because as soon as you turn around the retailer will move everything you just changes and management follows you and says you didn't do your job. Stop micro managing and have more faith in your employers so they don't have to waste time covering themselves.

    Pros

It beats unemployment. Good benefits package. Hands off managment until they decide not to be and make things diificult and miserable.

    Cons

Constant tinkering with mgmt plans and projects. If the last plan was the end all and be all, why are you changing it yet again 6-12 months later? And again, and again. People with zero knowledge of the subject matter making scientific decisions based on faulty knowledge and unrealistic, unfounded criteria. Self evaluations? Really? You don't have the slightest idea how your own people are doing and can't write it down? Forgot about leeway if you need to go to the doctor, pick up your car from shop, etc.

    Advice to Management

Keep focusing on quarters and stock price. Things that matter not to people who aren't getting stock options and 6 figure paychecks. Short term will ruin you in the long run. Keep re-inventing wheels that other people and companies figured out and implemented years ago.

  6. Work here if you want to stay below the radar, not advance, collect your pension and retire.

    Pros

The benefit package (specifically, health and vacation) was excellent. Employees are given the opportunity to balance career and personal family life.

    Cons

Very little opportunity for advancement. Management is not willing to consider new or fresh ideas. Company is financially conservative which brings down moral since there are few perks. There is absolutley no or very little opportunity for advancement and a very high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate middle management's performance. Although Lorillard claims to have an "open - door" policy, suggestions fall on deaf ears. Certain areas in the country have extremely high turn over, which is an indication of low moral and poor treatment. These areas should be a red flag or indication that there are serious problems with middle management in these areas.

    Pros

Basically working on your own, very important to be self-motivated, great salary, job security, company car, laptop, benefits, 5 weeks vacation time. If you're lucky enough to work with a great group of people, this is a great job.

    Cons

Ladder-climbing junior management cost this company some of its best and brightest. Also need to come up with a believable lie as to what you do for a living, because lot sof people will hate you for it.

    Advice to Management

    Curb your young.
