    Pros

Sound Leadership, well-managed, opportunities for advancement, reasonable pay bands, fabulous community in fast growing region near DC

    Cons

Transportation gridlock, high cost of living but small pay increases, political controversy can be exhausting, slow to add new jobs for increasing workload

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the County Administrator! He is a wonderful and treasonable leader who balances needs of the workforce with the political realities.

I have been working at Loudoun County, Leesburg, VA

    Pros

If you live close to your county office it might counterbalance the low salary. Local feel. Invested employees.

    Cons

Low wages. Lack of internal resources. Could use process improvement assessment. Nothing seems confidential. Innovative thinking not welcome.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider having a private consulting firm do an overall assessment of the various agencies and their processes. Ask for feedback thru a private firm with strict confidentiality policies.

I have been working at Loudoun County, Leesburg, VA part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay rate is pretty good for a starter job. Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Front desk employees all get paid well to start.

The hiring process does take a long time to complete. There is no full time position available, and there are no benefits.

I have been working at Loudoun County, Leesburg, VA

    Pros

Good benefits, but they are shrinking every year. Start with about 3 weeks vacation a year.

    Cons

You'll need that vacation to balance out the stress. All shifts are horribly timed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When line staff tell you what is not working, actually listen to them and make adjustments, instead of insisting the current approach will be the only acceptable approach.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Loudoun County, Leesburg, VA full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

regular hours and work week. good health care benefits and short commute if you live close. Can move up if you are patient and work hard. Good basic HR training for basic items such as Microsoft Office and leadership, management. Retirement benefits and sick leave good.

    Cons

Lack of raises, actual cuts in take home over the past few years and hard work not rewarded with money. This may not change for the next few years. Some departments are very political and this can detract from the mission of the department. Old form of government which can makes the govt function at less than optimum. Many legacy systems and processes, which can be difficult to figure out and navigate. Departments isolated from each other, so there may be a lack of resource sharing. Each dept run like a independent small business (can be good or bad). Lack of professional training and networking with other professionals in same position in the state-which can lead to lack of innovation and effectiveness.
