    Great internship experience, flat culture

Commodities Analyst (Former Employee) Changping, Beijing (China)

ProsTraders are fun and helpful. Generally very upbeat, energetic working culture. I was incredibly fortunate to have been given the exposure to a desk that doesn't even take interns at a young age.

ConsI was not prepared, as a college sophomore, for this internship. I had only rudimentary understanding of trading and economics and had trouble with basic concepts around how the market works. I wish I had had more formal training but it was a small desk where resources were limited.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Commodity Trading Company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood company until company sold shares to another company and went through many layoffs. Now the company has been sold and has a different name.

    ConsEach department went to layoffs.

Worst if you are looking for a job that prepares you for the future(LD Commodities India)

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosinformal work culture, up beat mood

    Cons1. Zero training(technical) for new joiners/existing employees.
    2. Unbelievable focus on cost cutting in the weirdest of areas( basic maintenance, toilet accessories)
    3. Non existent HR department.( Money allocated for employee satisfaction is not used and shown as savings)
4.Very less qualities of a MNC ( upper management is happy with low standards if it saves money)
5.Pay rise is not according to talent but according to the extent you can flatter your boss

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease be a bit more professional(sorry lot more). Give some teeth to the HR dept. Focus on well being of employees.

    Challenging but Supportive

    Trader (Former Employee)

Pros- Nice people for a trading job
    - Good hours
    - Relaxed atmosphere as long as you are making money
    - Potential to learn, and colleagues that want to help you learn

Cons- Lots of pressure if you are losing money
    - Compensation decisions seemed opaque, you get the feeling you are making a fair amount relative to your profit/loss but you wonder whether you aren't

Advice to Senior ManagementThe training program is great, don't change it a bit... but you should consider recruiting from more schools. There is a lot of talent out there you are missing by only advertising your company in a few places.

    Decent

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe hours here are reasonable; most people work around a 60 hour week with differences depending on the trading desk. Not exactly the best place for advancement, as it is a relatively small company.

ConsLD's Human Resources department is notoriously slow and ineffective. Job offers were given almost 2 whole months after the interview with no word in between. Advancement is difficult as it is a small company with few upper level jobs open.

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall, not a bad place to work; the culture is very segmented depending on the desk. Changes to consider would be more HR changes than anything else.
