I worked at Louisiana-Pacific full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

When budget cuts happened, the CEO and CFO took it in stride, selling the corporate jets and flying coach to remote sites. The culture with upper management was open. When things were going poorly, they let everyone know.

    Cons

Remote sites don't necessarily have upper management oversight, so if your manager isn't great, nobody knows but the people who work for them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know better what's happening with your managers who aren't on site. Get some input from the employees who work for the people you manage.

LP has a very weak sales management team in place. They do not respect or value their field sales people.

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Solid product portfolio. Decent benefits and pay.

    Cons

Weak sales management team. Weak business team management. Terrible marketing department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your sales people. Do what you say your going to do. Treat your customers with respect and do business with integrity. Need to check the management team's ego at the door.

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific

    Pros

Location is great. Pay is reasonable. Fun people. Fellow workers are all in the same boat.

    Cons

Egocentric culture. Everybody is watching out for themselves and their jobs.
There are good people in the trench and some in management as well. But they are powerless to make positive changes in the way management controls everything from behind closed doors.
Employee appreciation is all about PR for the company.
How Performance Plans are used by (most) managers is a joke at best. Do NOT be honest or you will be punished. Put down what you think your manager will want to hear so you have a better chance for a yearly increase.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let employees rate their managers performances and you may get a clue as to what the culture is really like.

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great people, occasionally allow flexible work from home. Plants are well run and safe.

    Cons

People are frequently punished for great job performance. Corporate culture is very cut throat. Talent management consists of who likes you, not how well you do your job which is destructive to the morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being elitists. Get back in touch with your people! Put work/home life balance back on the list of values. Have a set standard that applies to everyone, not a good ole boy system of promotion.

I worked at Louisiana-Pacific full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Coworkers, some flexibility, synergy within the regions, work hard play hard mentality at the field level

    Cons

Politics....too many chiefs, truly a company that rewards favorites versus talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't micromanage and create busy work just to make yourself look good to the executive leadership team. Trust your talented sales force. Please stop allowing marketing to control sales. Marketing does not contribute in a tangible way to the bottom line. Sales folks do...

Horrible Culture and Worthless HR Department - Bullying Encouraged!

I worked at Louisiana-Pacific full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The opportunity to attend events at LP Field and Bridgestone Arena from the company suite.

    Cons

LP talks a big game. The literature suggests that the company is caring and compassionate and that they want to become an employer of choice through their honesty and integrity, however, when it comes down to it, they will stand by management no matter what and they have decided to let management rule - even if that means they are harassing to other coworkers and subordinates. The accounting department at the Nashville corporate office is corrupt and full of negative people. The culture is spoiled by politics and the environment is toxic to work in. On top of that the work hour expectations are 70-80 hours per week - and that IS NOT for a "limited" time or because of "special" circumstances like they claim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to all employees and treat them fairly. No one has the right to treat any person with disrespect - even if it is LEGAL, the company should stand up to bullying and implement an official policy that they actually ENFORCE.

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Great co-workers, smart and hard-working

    Cons

Poor managemenent that don't care about your career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Joining LP is a bad career move. You will feel like you're a senior nurse in an an old old peoples ward, sacrificing your skills for backwards technology and an unappreciative audience using old technology. It is only a matter of time until one day they figure they're done with the old ward and decide to close everything down, and you'll be out with skills
that are 20yrs out of date.

    Pros

    Great benefits and work environment

    Cons

Hard to transfer or promote to other departments unless you are a young twenty-something

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should consider experience over a degree when promoting. Just because one has a degree does not mean they can do the job

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good products that do serve a purpose in the market

    Cons

Management had no regard for the sales force. Would not listen to what they had to say. Would quickly throw long term customers and employees under the bus if they felt they would look good by bringing in some one new.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO is actually a decent guy, but his VP's are not to be trusted.
