    I worked at Louisiana-Pacific full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ability to learn many skills, lots of cross-training opportunities.

    Cons

Long wait as "temporary employee" (frequently seven months+) with no insurance or other benefits. Management frequently shows favoritism toward friends and family in promotions/switching jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A standard 90-day probationary period would be adequate; Making someone work full-time for six months or more, without a guarantee of job security or benefits, makes your organization appear very unprofessional and unstable. Potentially great employees will go elsewhere seeking long-term stability. The rampant favoritism by management is the worst I have seen anywhere.

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The plants are safe. Beautiful corporate office.

    Cons

The company simply doesn't care about the people. Very punishing environment to work in. Talent management is very, very poor. Politics have replaced true leadership. Lots of internal competition, not team work. People are pitted against each other and the most cut throat wins.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ethics, integrity, reward, character, and substance have all taken a back seat to politics and favorites. The culture has been destroyed. The morale is at ground zero.

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Engineered Wood Products, Siding Products and OSB
Great Opportunity to see Professional Sports
Great Opportunity to see Music Events
    Value Safety

    Cons

Aspiration is all you get from this company. There are no true core values, just a façade. Don't expect this company to honor agreements. Expect to be an outcast if smarter or wiser than those in control. What kind of Executive Leadership would tell their team that the Company Core Values may not be attainable, just aspirations. Really?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a set of "Core Values" that are the true Esprit-de-Corps of the Company, not aspirations. Find Leaders that are wise because of their true business acumen and not testing the latest theory from a "Leadership Summit". Sound business is built on trust and integrity. A new beginning could be cultivated by demonstrating these two core values: Trust and Integrity. Employees and customers have lost all trust with the strategic direction of this company.

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities to experience exciting sporting events.

    Cons

The middle management of the company is too watered down. They'd rather focus on reports and information that actual sales. The real sales professionals are leaving and in the long term LP's performance will slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to your roots and get hungry for sales again.

    I worked at Louisiana-Pacific full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

When budget cuts happened, the CEO and CFO took it in stride, selling the corporate jets and flying coach to remote sites. The culture with upper management was open. When things were going poorly, they let everyone know.

    Cons

Remote sites don't necessarily have upper management oversight, so if your manager isn't great, nobody knows but the people who work for them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know better what's happening with your managers who aren't on site. Get some input from the employees who work for the people you manage.

    Pros

The best part of working at LP are the other employees. We also make great products.

    Cons

Very political environment, yes men are rewarded consistently, old boys club, customers are not valued or cared about.
Since Frost left there is absolutely no leadership at the top.

LP has a very weak sales management team in place. They do not respect or value their field sales people.

    Pros

Solid product portfolio. Decent benefits and pay.

    Cons

Weak sales management team. Weak business team management. Terrible marketing department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your sales people. Do what you say your going to do. Treat your customers with respect and do business with integrity. Need to check the management team's ego at the door.

I have been working at Louisiana-Pacific

    Pros

Location is great. Pay is reasonable. Fun people. Fellow workers are all in the same boat.

    Cons

Egocentric culture. Everybody is watching out for themselves and their jobs.
There are good people in the trench and some in management as well. But they are powerless to make positive changes in the way management controls everything from behind closed doors.
Employee appreciation is all about PR for the company.
How Performance Plans are used by (most) managers is a joke at best. Do NOT be honest or you will be punished. Put down what you think your manager will want to hear so you have a better chance for a yearly increase.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let employees rate their managers performances and you may get a clue as to what the culture is really like.

    I worked at Louisiana-Pacific full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Coworkers, some flexibility, synergy within the regions, work hard play hard mentality at the field level

    Cons

Politics....too many chiefs, truly a company that rewards favorites versus talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't micromanage and create busy work just to make yourself look good to the executive leadership team. Trust your talented sales force. Please stop allowing marketing to control sales. Marketing does not contribute in a tangible way to the bottom line. Sales folks do...
