Pros
Excellent pay, vacations easy to plan, no walls between departments
Cons
raises are low (2.5%), require 30 days notice for days off and often overlooked when requested, rotating shift, little review of schedules before being posted resulting in Close than Open schedule. Human resourses manager at this location has an atitude and instead of trying to help intead refers you to the company employee website
Pros
The only good thing is the benefits, but you have to be a full time worker
Cons
Management is horrible, they don't know what they are doing, if you don't kiss ass in this place you go nowhere, sometimes I wonder how they even graduated grade school.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees with respect and learn how to do your job
Pros
Benefits, people, discounts, security, learning
Cons
It is tough work the management schedule
Advice to Senior Management
Corporate management needs to more in touch with the store teams
Pros
Lowe's is a fine place to work if you get full-time status. Part-timers get less than 10 hours a week in most departments unless you work unloading the trucks. Part-time unloaders get about 20 hours a week. Unless you are a manager or have very low expenses, Lowe's is a place to work for supplemental income like if you have your own business or on disability and need to work only a few hours.
Cons
There are not a lot of hours given to associates who are not full-time. Moving up in the company can be hard if you aren't a lackey.
Advice to Senior Management
Include all employees in special events and celebrations, not just the day time employees.
Pros
The pros of working for Lowe's, is that the job is fairly stable. If you get on here, you could expect to stay for basically as long as you want to. Also there is the 10% discount, with higher discounts for employees during the holidays. The benefits for even parttime employees are great, and are not that expensive.
Cons
The cons are that if you are young, dumb and off the street (like I was when I first started), expect to get paid much lower than the other employees. They take advantage of you not knowing what others make, Not only that but during certain times of the year they cut part time people down from 30 hours a week to 15 and expect that you live off of that. They are also NOT FAIR when it comes to giving promotions to people who have worked there for years. They will cut your hours, bring in new people at higher pay than you, and the new people can come in a be promoted to full time without them blinking their eyes. Seniority means NOTHING in this company.
Advice to Senior Management
I think management really should start thinking about the well-being of their employees. The management employees don't care about anyone but themselves, and it shows. Because of this, they will never gain any respect from any of the employees.
Pros
You can't find a job in your field and you need to work to pay bills
Cons
You can not feed your family on what you make at Lowe's and you too poor to use the health care benefits. You not aloud to take more than five of your ten benefit sick days in a year. So you really only have five days sick time.
Advice to Senior Management
Support your employees, Make sure you district and store managers are following company policy when it comes to promotions, work schedules and pay scales.
Pros
Pays the bills when needed
Cons
Management uses the Good Ol Boy system and has favortism.
Advice to Senior Management
Fire yourself when you see it is needed.
Pros
Lowe's offers its employees plenty of hours, high bonuses at each quarter, incentives for high customer satisfaction, & other cashiers become great friends.
Cons
The pay is low, no raise is offered until a year of service, & that is only like 10 cents. Standing on feet all day is uncomfortable, and cashiers always have to remain busy. Having to request to use restrooms from head cashiers is a bit much, & customers can be a handful. In summer months, be prepared to sweat in the garden registers.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership is great, it's just a lot of work for the little pay received.
Pros
Rapid advancement up to department manager level.
Positive minded and fair treatment of employees.
Most positions require a pleasant mix of customer interaction, computer/desk work, and physical labor.
Cons
Advancement after department manager level is slow.
Salary raises for promotions are disappointing; annual raises are worse.
Advice to Senior Management
After 3 years, 2 promotions and 3 employer requested lateral moves, the pay just isn't commensurate. I and many of my coworkers are quietly confessing to looking for work elsewhere.
Pros
Lowes is a great place to work, especially for college students. The work place is very nice and a great place to make some extra cash.
Cons
Some of the downsides working at lowes is they may give you odd hours or may be stuck working in a department you do not like.
Advice to Senior Management
If you want to work at Lowes then the interview is not to bad, just do a little research and you will be fine.
