I worked at Lowe's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

An OK role for anyone who is just starting out as an HR Manager. Consider this job a resume builder and not much more than that.

    Cons

LONG work hours and a work schedule that is not conducive to having any kind of work/life balance.

    Typical high turnover retail environment.

One of my biggest frustrations was dealing with managers who had no sense of professionalism.

I have been working at Lowe's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Promotion from within. Pay is decent. If you work hard you can get where you want to be.

    Cons

It can be discouraging working with people who do not always have the same values. Sometimes you will feel as if you can do you manager's better than they can. The schedule sucks on the store end as with most retail. Lowe's is only closed 2 days a year. It is hard to take off for holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that incentives are fair across all departments and across the company.

    I worked at Lowe's full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of good people, but the bad outweigh the decision making throughout this company.

    Cons

If you like working for a company that embraces immoral, unethical practices concerning their policies and procedures, or if you like to hear comments like you need to be glad you have a job, and if you want to be considered as a slave without any concern....then this is a good place for you. This company started out as being a company who cared more about their employee, and customer....now all they care about is the almighty dollar that they can steal from you every time you enter their store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you start by listening to the people that make you the honest dollar for advice, and spend the time honestly listening to your customers....and then apply what you are hearing....you might begin to see better results.
The major problem is that corporate is only hearing what they want to hear and not what they need to hear.
P.S Quit holding on to the employees that live in the realm of unethical, and immoral....they know who they are.

I have been working at Lowe's full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The benefits, health, stock purchase, 10% off of purchases (just some) are good. The rotating schedule can be good also. Having days off during the week allows time to take care of personal matters that cannot be scheduled during the weekend

    Cons

Turnover can be bad and management hiring replacements can be terrible also. They wait to post jobs until the person is gone. Then it can take months to find a qualified replacement. It can put a strain on the employees left and their ability to service the customer, thus sales. Pay vs Cost of Living, can not keep up unless you take on more responsibility toward management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start the interview process as soon as you know you will need a replacement in the future or keep contact with a "bullpen" of canidates or send out ASM to recruit. Know your people besides the job they perform for you. You lose good people to competition because they are dissatisfied with their lives either there or at home. If the employees around them know something is up...

I have been working at Lowe's full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The company offers as much training as you are willing to take. They are very focused on their customers so your knowledge and ability to provide superior customer service is important, so they offer training. They also offer better than average wages, benefits, and quality of life for full time employment. The opportunity to move up is always present, but you would be crazy to want to.

    Cons

As a manager, you are treated like dirt. It is all about the bottom line, which it should be, but you are the scapegoat no matter how hard you work. You could lead every metric the company measures you on, but if you are falling short on something you cannot control, you will be held accountable and all of the focus is placed on the 1 negative.. There has been a tremendous amount of turnover over the past 10 years within the ranks of store management, so a lot of the store managers are newer and are looking to promote their own careers. You will not get praise of your hard work and often times will take the blame for the bad and not be recognized for the good you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The disconnect between the corporate office and the store is unbelievable. I've worked in both, at a very high level. We have placed too much trust in people looking to advance their own careers and not is hard facts. People push programs to make a name for them selves. Regardless of it's practicality within the store environment. Not all program- but a lot.

I have been working at Lowe's part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The best things about working for Lowe's is that your always facing new challenges everyday, your co workers are always very helpful, and you also get to learn new skills and helpful tips for life.

    Cons

The cons of working for Lowe's to me are dealing with some of the outrages attitudes from the customers and the complete dis reguard you can sometimes get from the upper management and corporate office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some advice that I would give to the management teams for Lowe's is that you need to stick behind the employees a little bit more often.

I think the managers should stand back and let their employees do their job. Don't interfere with them and their customer.
