Pros
Lowe's pays well at lower levels. Lowes gives you opportunity to advance. They give you the tools you need to perform your job and tge resources to advance.
Cons
It is retail so the hours for full time positions can vary largely. You will work weekends. Only one weekend off per month unlike some retailers who offer two off.
Advice to Senior Management
They have multiple programs in place to give feedback or ideas to upper management allowing the company to implement policy to make lowes better for the employee
Pros
Great Benefits to Part-Timers:
Insurance
401-K Plan
Stock Purchase Plan
Professional Growth and Training
If you're a full-timer you get other benefits like tuition reimbursement.
Very relaxed environment and very respectable. Cool people as well. Good work/life balance and will work around school. You will learn good customer service skills.
Cons
One hour lunch breaks (I personally like shorter, like thirty)
Very loose call-in policy (I mean you don't get terminated untill 3 days of no-show, really?)
Outdated technology, uses the Genesis system. Very prehistoric and slow.
(although they are updating their communications with the iphone)
... thats all I can think of so far
Advice to Senior Management
I personally think Lowes should tighten the attendance policy for work, as too many people call in or don't even notify before their shift, otherwise this place is pretty awesome.
Pros
security
good pay
fun
enough tool to work with.
Cons
part to full time is a hassle
Advice to Senior Management
management is overall very good but there are a couple bad one that could easily be weeded out to make it perfect
Pros
They are flexible with scheduling, so its a good fit for college students. Training was very in depth and prepared you well. Its an up beat very customer friendly atmosphere. You really do want to go in for work. They finally switched to a new scheduling system which was awesome and made it easy to check your schedule. Direct deposit is also another plus.
Cons
Unfair wages. I watched as people who got hired just two weeks after me with the same title got paid a dollar more. Ignorant managers. They constantly understaff and i would be forced to stay up to 3 hours after closing. Their scheduling is rough.. You will work up to 9 days straight without getting a day off. Although most positions are considered entry level they are not all treated as such. They do not tell you about oppurtunities of advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Schedule more workers. Fire no call no shows instantly
Pros
-Decent Pay
-Good health benefits
-Gain good work experience
Cons
- Can be stressful at times
- Inconsistent with intrepretation of policies and procedures
- You must work weekends and several night shifts
Advice to Senior Management
For Senior Management to be more organized about providing training for new employees.
Pros
The pay is very good, especially for those that are working part-time while attending school.
Ability to be flexible with schedule.
Some ability to move around the store (various positions).
Cons
Management could be significantly better, however this would depend on the location you work at.
Not a lot of responsibility is given to those that are not managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow those that are not managers or team-leaders to get more work done.
Try not to use the hierarchical approach as often, if there is an issue talk to someone directly rather than pass it on from one manager to another.
Pros
10% discount.
If you own a home this is useful.
Higher pay than some other jobs that are available to students.
Cons
Management is never satisfied.
The department that you work in could be difficult to close due to many small products.
Software is dated.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep a more realistic outlook on expectations.
Get IT to work on making the new scanning iPhones actual phones as well as scanners.
Pros
The money and incentives are good, but it developed into the plague that is bringing it down...
Cons
The company went from a place that cared and was family oriented into a money hungry corporation that only cared what the investors think. They forgot all the people that helped build the company into the huge corporation it is now and leave incompetent managers to run each store as they wish.
Advice to Senior Management
Read between the lines, the low down tells you in every issue how to treat the customer, but if it means cutting into your bottom line and losing your 40k bonus, they you really don't care. HR managers are supposed to be there for the employee, instead you work for the store manager. And probably go golfing with him.
Pros
Good Pay and Benefits for Retail Work
2 weeks vacation to start, 3 weeks after 5 years
Good 401k match
Cons
Employees are seen as very expendable
Technology is improving, but still very weak and selling systems run slowly
Managment loses sight of the big picture by focusing on minor sales and performance metrics
Advice to Senior Management
Better communicate changes in company direction with rank and file employees
Don't lose sight of the forest looking through all of the trees
Pros
Its a job, fairly easy, mostly good ppl
Cons
Always lack of coverage, some unreliable co workers. Unfair pay
