Pros
good training, good people over all. lots of room and opportunity for advancement. easy transfer if you change cities or move to another state. better than average benefits. good opportunity for bonuses.
Cons
we have a weak management team in our store. not typical of other stores but frustrating that higher ups don't seem to care as long as we don't have any major issues. store could be much better with even just an average manager.
also very weird scheduling practices.
Advice to Senior Management
Over all very poor communications between top management and people who actually do the work (customer interaction). Good coworkers but bad managers.
Pros
Independence
Pay
Benefits
Strong Company
Lowe's has great people working there and is a fun environment. You are always busy and time flies bye.
Cons
Minimal Supervision
Laboring
Tough if you don't know hands on skills
Coming from a place where I don't have many skills, my future is uncertain at a home improvement facility.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase your vocalization with employees on your future expectations or thoughts. Improve new employee training. But I am very happy with my job thus far.
Pros
Room for growth if willing to learn and put in the extra time and effort. Decent pay for retail and good management.
Cons
Retail hours are difficult. Not as many store's are opening now, so it is very difficult to move up to store manager.
Pros
Large company
Hours are fair
Competitive salary
Lowe's offers a lot of opportunity for advancement, there are more than a few people in our store who have advanced from being loaders PT up to department managers and grow.
Cons
Rotating -flexible- schedules for most in-store employees makes it very difficult to go to school or work in other locations.
Advice to Senior Management
Do more in the way off communication and available free time. Also, try to figure out solutions to the high turnover rate
Pros
Great place to learn about home improvement and home improvement products
Great to learn customer service
Cons
Horrible benefits especially for part-time, pay was low, have to wait 6 months before moving departments, corrupt and unprofessional management. They treat you like youre stupid, inferior, and a joke. Even if you try to offer advice or share an opinion they never take it into consideration. Open door policy is a joke. They dont solve problems well, you're treated like a child. A lot of gossiping, they dont care about how good of a job you do they only care about how much you can suck up to them. If they dont like you theyll make sure you dont succeed even if youre one of the better workers. They nitpick over small stuff and never acknowledge the big issues. Its like they live in an alternate reality to the real business world of today. They don't understand what good customer service is, how to treat employees, or how to run a successful business.
Advice to Senior Management
Educate yourselves on professionalism, business management skills the good and the bad, problem solving, sociology, human interactions, perceptions, ect. Practice what you preach, put the company ahead of friendships and loyalty with fellow employees who have been around a long time, if theyre causing problems then discipline them dont punish the wrong person, assumptions are not facts, find the facts first and deal accordingly, and most importantly learn that the only bias should be on behalf of the company, not your own personal beliefs. So learn to have and keep an open mind.
Pros
Lowe's offers a lot of opportunity for advancement, there are more than a few people in our store who have advanced from stocking PT up to department managers and assistant store managers. The benefits are pretty decent for all FT employees. The company is working to evolve and grow.
Cons
It seems to be very difficult for management to fire anyone, even when they are obviously disrespectful of rules and customers. Rotating schedules for most in-store employees makes it very difficult to go to school or work other jobs.
Advice to Senior Management
Concentrate on commending good employees and getting rid of poor employees, get a feel for who is doing a good job and staying on task from other employees and department heads.
Pros
Fair compensation for work experience
Cons
Lack of mdse when needed
Advice to Senior Management
Communication is lacking from management to hourly
Pros
Great Pay and Benefits
Excellent Training Program
Cons
Little input from employees on change.
Never know what to expect until it hits.
Advice to Senior Management
Ask the little guy how decisions will impact.
Pros
The only good thing is the benefits, but you have to be a full time worker
Cons
Management is horrible, they don't know what they are doing, if you don't kiss ass in this place you go nowhere, sometimes I wonder how they even graduated grade school.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees with respect and learn how to do your job
Pros
They offer good benefits.
Flexible scheduling makes it great for college students.
Discounted employee stock purchasing plan.
Solid pay for what you do.
Cons
Completely random schedules. A poor mixture between morning and evening shifts.
Part-timers are treated as pawns to do all the physical work while full-timers stand around and watch.
Advice to Senior Management
Look closer at the employees you have. Some seem to float by without putting in any effort at all while there are part-timers busting their back without recognition.
