Great Company if you are Full Time

Customer Service Associate III (Current Employee)
Clinton Township, MI

I have been working at Lowe's Home Centers part-time for more than 3 years

ProsOptimistic atmosphere. Great continuous training. Lots of room for promotion. Managers are trained well to encourage rather than scold. Managers are very personable and easy to talk to. They truly care about your personal well being and feelings. Great pay for a big box retailer with annual raises. Amazing learning experience in sales.

ConsBe prepared to lift a lot of heavy things. If you are part time, forget about a guaranteed amount of hours, even if they are promised. Full time hours on the up season and 10 hours or less on the down seasons. A lot of "clopens" AKA working a 2pm-11pm shift then having to be back at the store for a 5:15am-2:15pm shift. Very hard to have requested time off, even if it is months in advance.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay closer attention to uniting the store instead of creating "cliques" or openly favoring certain employees. ...It's so obvious. If an employee is truly dedicated and wants to further their career with the company, try to help them rather than declining them every time they apply for full time or a promoted position. Let them know what they can do to improve and work on to get to that position. "Clopening" on a weekday is just cruel. You expect your company to be at its full potential when your employees are sleeping 4-5 hours a night? KRONOS is terrible and should be rid of.

Its a job

Millwork Sales Specialist (Current Employee)
Detroit, MI

I have been working at Lowe's Home Centers full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGood strong company, decent benefits, decent pay for retail.

Consschedule, some stores have people in management that lack people skills and are only in management positions because they were promoted during growth periods. little room for advancement, cost of insurance increases more than raise.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to put people in management with degrees, and not over paid stockers.

Not a great place for advancement

Customer Service Associate (Current Employee)
Detroit, MI

I have been working at Lowe's Home Centers

ProsIf you don't like overtime, you'll like it here. They schedule you for 39 hours to make sure you don't. I like/get along with pretty much everyone.

Consmoving into mgt. is getting tough. They have reduced the amounts of upper management in different ways the last 2 years. Also, depending on the store you are at, there is little chance to get promoted within the store, as they will bring in from other stores. They just eliminated all commissions and spiffs.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you're not promoting from within your store? That says more about your leadership, not whether your people are actually capable.

Most unionized non-union company in the world

Zone Manager (Former Employee)
White Lake, MI

I worked at Lowe's Home Centers

ProsGreat concept in customer service, They eally should have continued to teach and require the associates to pactice what htey were preaching

ConsCompany asks for one thing from managers then doesn't support theier positions on the floor. Employees just run and cry to HR when they are told there is an aspect of their job that is not up to par.

Advice to Senior ManagementWatch your back. If you have to make any kind of decision you are on your own. Be careful i
