Excellent company, great pay compared to other retailers.

Customer Service Associate-Appliances (Former Employee)
Columbia, MO

I worked at Lowe's part-time for more than a year

ProsLowe's provided great high level training especially in the appliance department.
Lowe's provided great compensation for the work that you did no matter what department you were in.

ConsThe biggest con was that they took away spiffs when selling appliances which added another 50% of income to every paycheck.
When it comes down to it, Lowe's is retail and retail has its ups and downs.

Terrible working experience.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Titusville, FL

I have been working at Lowe's part-time for more than 3 years

ProsI like most of my co-workers, as well as the head cashiers and the department managers. Can't say the same for the higher up management. The pay is alright too.

ConsThe management has no idea what they are doing. We are constantly understaffed because of hour cuts, which leads to constant customer complaints. Asking for time off is a hastle. They also constantly change policies.

Advice to Senior ManagementFirst of all, learn to schedule properly. Don't hire new people if you are just going to end up cutting hours.

Good, at first, then, I wondered about my future as an employee.

RTM Clerk (Former Employee)

I worked at Lowe's part-time

ProsEmployee Discounts, decent ins,

ConsPay is nothing to write home about. And it is not uncommon for them to hire people on, then coldheartedly slash their hrs to unlivable. e.g. 10 hrs a week. I saw this happen to quite a few, right before x-mas last yr (2013) This was unexpected, an on short notice. It was really sad.

Advice to Senior ManagementBring humanity back to the corporate entity, Lowes has become. On more than a few occasions, I was somewhat amused, that customers were even making comments about it. None seemed positive.

Chitown Lowe's

Customer Service Associate II (Current Employee)
Lincolnwood, IL

I have been working at Lowe's part-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood 401k.
Pay above most Retail

ConsThey hire people off the street instead of giving opportunity to existing Employees. It is hard to go from part time to full time. They have a interview process that requires them to have 3 top applicants to start a interview. This is a bs policy if you work there you will get a rejection email for positions apply. My managers would rather hire off the street then train you in a different department.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart promoting with in the company. More full time positions given to part timers.

Horrible training and antiquated IT systems

Human Resources Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Lowe's full-time for more than 3 years

ProsMost employees are civil and friendly

ConsNo room for advancement...HR is given far too much to do and it keeps piling on. Corporate has no real sense of what's going on in stores. ASMs are bored and just putting in time.

Advice to Senior ManagementFollow-through on programs...Upgrade IT systems...Re-evaluate pay scales for management....

It was a stepping stone.

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Kansas City, KS

I worked at Lowe's full-time for more than a year

ProsCompetitive wages, easy enough work

ConsManagers often had their head to far up their rears to listen to anything a lowly employee had to say, ended up costing them in the end several times.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou don't see everything all the time, if someone has a genuine concern, take the time to climb out of your gilded chariot and listen
