    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the managers should stand back and let their employees do their job. Don't interfere with them and their customer.

    Pros

There are some positions that allow set work schedules, they offer decent benefits, and the people that work there.

    Cons

Extremely weak Human Resources, no accountability for upper management, women tend to be paid significantly less than their male counterparts, and you are not given the resources to effectively perform you job functions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managing by threats and intimidation does not create empowered employees.

I have been working at Lowe's part-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is going to vary from store to store. Friendly coworkers, store manager will work along side of you, 401k, medical, promotions are available.

    Cons

management does not back up its employees. lack of hours, little hands on training for sales floor associates. ridiculous expectations of dedication to the company, shift changes without notification, lack of floor employees make it difficult to handle your department, understaffed on cashiers, can be a real pain to find an ASM to assist you, all the normal retail cons disgruntled employees/customers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

staff accordingly, stop worrying about being the #1 store in the region and take care of your employees. Instead of retiling the bathrooms and replacing the bulbs why not fix the air conditioning that hasn't been working properly for 2-3 months.

I have been working at Lowe's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Overtime is available in several seasons. There is a lot of Benefits/Discounts available to employees, From car insurance to cell phones.

    Cons

Lack of Communication on store level.
Pay rate is to be desired.
    Choose customers over employees.
More often than not it is a thankless job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the right choice, Customers are not everything. Without the Employees to back you up Lowe's would be nothing.

I have been working at Lowe's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great pay, benefits, 401k, discount, knowledge gained, promoting from within was a very big plus. I was full time for 4 of the 7 years i worked there and out of those 4 years i always had 40 hours a week. Very uptight about OT.

    Cons

Very uptight about getting overtime hours, short staffed stores require impossible workloads.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is about leadership, not a army-style command notion.

Former Employee - Department Manager Lowes in Harper Woods, MI

I worked at Lowe's full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I liked the schedule before I had a family. Hard work will get you quickly promoted to mid level management. Was a fun place to work and I still keep in touch with may previous coworkers.

    Cons

High employee turnover made for lots of training. Was stuck as a mid level manager unless I wanted to work 55 hrs a week and have less job security. A bad store manager will make you as a manager look bad and the only option is to change stores.
