    Pros

My co-workers are upbeat and friendly. The Lowe's store itself is flexible with hours for students. Pay rate is slightly above the average of other retailers.

    Cons

Poor communication from management. There seems to be a major disconnect between the part-time employees and management. Employees are constantly moved into other departments without being cross-trained.

    Advice to Management

Get all of your managers on the same page. There seems to be a major disconnect between the part-time employees and management.

    Pros

Biggest pro was the people I met and the friendships I made. It's certainly better than Home Depot, which I have worked at as well.

    Cons

Most of the management is very poor. Very few actual leaders, for most of them this was their first opportunity to tell people what to do, and it was obvious. Hours were kind of flexible, but some things were a little strange, for instance, you can get tuition reimbursement, but you have to work full time. If you work full time, for most positions, you have to have a totally open schedule. That's just ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on leadership and cultivating real leaders rather than managers.

    Pros

Good starting pay, co-workers are friendly, fun environment, and you don't have to fold clothes. There are several departments to work in, and you can apply for a new position or transfer to a new department any time an opening comes up. They really work with your schedule as a part-time employee. They seem to have a good work-life balance. The managers are always available to help. 10% discount to all military. They send out a lot of discount mailers. Customers are reasonably happy.

    Cons

Not very good at cross-training, and they don't care if you have prior experience or education. They are not familiar with California Labor Laws. Breaks are not given correctly. The head cashiers are stuck up and snotty, even the guys. They stare at the schedule for hours at a time, thinking maybe it will magically change.

    Advice to Management

Use the experience of your employees to your advantage. Don't let drama cause them to quite and go to a competitor.

  7. Takes care of their hard working employees with great benefits.

    Pros

Secure job that I feel is headed toward the future of brick and mortar retail business.

    Cons

Retail sucks period. It is mentally and emotionally draining to deal with needy and unnecessarily upset people. This is not Lowe's error, this is the nature of the three horned beast.

    Advice to Management

Separate the work function within lowe's. Dedicate staff just for selling and delivering amazing customer service and that is their only responsibility. Then dedicate other staff for the "tasks" needing to get completed. Down stocking, resetting planograms, cleaning. There is nothing more frustrating than having a timeline to get a task done, but constantly getting pulled by customers. Because customers come first and we should be assisting them all. And them getting an ear full from my boss because the project is not done and customer service is not an excuse. Makes us employees very stressed out and anxious.

    Pros

Lowe's offers a lot of opportunity for advancement, there are more than a few people in our store who have advanced from stocking PT up to department managers and assistant store managers. The benefits are pretty decent for all FT employees. The company is working to evolve and grow.

    Cons

It seems to be very difficult for management to fire anyone, even when they are obviously disrespectful of rules and customers. Rotating schedules for most in-store employees makes it very difficult to go to school or work other jobs.

    Advice to Management

Concentrate on commending good employees and getting rid of poor employees, get a feel for who is doing a good job and staying on task from other employees and department heads.

    Pros

nice employee's to work with. Nice clean environment to work in. Some dept.'s were more organized than others. overall a nice place to work

    Cons

Low pay. upper management were snobs. No recognition if you are a hard worker. some dept.'s were very unorganized.

    Advice to Management

Reward your employee's that work hard. Get more organized. Upper management shouldn't be letting the lower management decide who to fire.

    Pros

Good benefits package for both full-time employees and even if you are a part-time employee. Pay is competitive with other similar jobs, if not a little better.

    Cons

Employee schedules are horrible! You can be scheduled to close the store and work until 11:00 p.m. and then have to open the store the next morning at 6:00 a.m. You can also be scheduled to work 10 days in a row, and can be scheduled to work until 11:00 p.m. one day, then work at 12:00 p.m. the next day, 10:00 a.m. the next day and then at 6:00 a.m. the next day. You get tired all the time and get sick from having your schedule changed all the time.

Managers don't care about their employees. They only care that they don't get any complaints from customers. Managers are always telling their employees that they can hire someone else to do their job. Very little appreciation for the employees, even the ones who work really hard.

Managers don't care if employees quit and they will fire you for doing nothing.

Managers have their favorite people and those are the only people who get promoted. There are a lot of people who get away with doing hardly any work because they are the manager's pets, while other people have to work really, really hard. Very unfair working environment.

It would be a lot better if there was a union. At least with a union, there would be rules that the management would have to follow and the employees would have some protection when the management treated them badly.

    Advice to Management

Promotions should be made on merit and not just because managers have their favorite people who always "pal" around with them. Employees who work really hard should be recognized for the really good work they do and not have to be threatened that there are 20 other people who could have their job, regardless if the economy is bad, especially when they are doing a good job.
