I worked at Lowell Community Health Center full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I felt that the staff at Lowell Community Health Center really wanted to make changes in the community and better the health and safety of the center's patients. There was a strong spirit of wanting to reach out and help the under served people in the area.

    Cons

Often, I did feel that management under appreciated the work that the employees in their department were accomplishing every day for not much pay. This does happen everywhere but people working in community centers are really there for more altruistic reasons and should be treated as such.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less micro-managing, more training at the start of the position.

I have been working at Lowell Community Health Center part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The co workers are wonderful (both supporting staff and clinical staff), the experience gained is valuable; fast paced, patients are complicated and the language/culture adds to the challenge. Staff tends to stay for long periods because they care about the work they do for the underserved city despite typical community setting benefits/salaries.

    Cons

lacking structure in organization making it chaotic and overwhelming. Sometimes chaotic is fun, but can be draining. Unsure if this is common to community settings, can't compare, but from speaking with employees of nearby community clinics, they appear to have better organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the staff that are in direct contact with the clients and support them
