I have been working at Lufthansa as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great co-workers and interns. Everyone is super friendly.

Not much opportunity for a job after internship.

I have been working at Lufthansa full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Meeting people from all over the world. Continuing my passion for Germany and learning the language more efficiently with everyone I met.

    Cons

Notice that only Intern Passenger Service is apparent on this list. Employees who are not interns working as Passenger Service are paid less than about $8/hr after taxes. Even if the money was poor, I still loved working there for the customers who came from all over the world. Management's organization and communication is so poor and they had let me go for nonsensical reasons. There are barely any German employees left working mainly for this company except the interns that come in the summer and get paid more because they are getting their salary from Germany (and not in America, otherwise they would never get paid, there is no union here).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people who work from their heart. Not minorities who gang up on people who do [work with heart].

I have been working at Lufthansa full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good health benefits, supportive team, does not easily fire people, lots of lateral movement positions, job security is relatively good

    Cons

Very German oriented, low salaries, company morale is low, no union, overly process-oriented, extremely bureaucratic, big company so things don't change easily, constant cost cutting measures, this position has a payback clause requiring you to stay for at least 2 years or "reimburse" the company for expenses. The amount varies but is generally under 10K or exempt in certain countries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more international and less bureaucratic. Include your overseas employees in more company communication.

I worked at Lufthansa as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Even as an intern, you are given challenging tasks and become part of a team. I was assigned to assist interesting projects within my department. I felt like my work as an intern was valued: After an initial introduction period into the new work environment and the field of work, I was responsible for individual project tasks, thus giving me a great opportunity to contribute to the team in a meaningful way.

    Cons

Company policies can be tricky when it comes to implementing change, as generally many different departments are involved in the decision process.

I have been working at Lufthansa full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get excellent benefits if you are keen on travelling, good work/life balance.

    Cons

Very difficult to go up the career ladder due to limited prospects. This is an industry you go to work if you are passionate about travelling but not to earn a lot of money.

I have been working at Lufthansa full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - strong brand which is recognized all over the world, employees identify themselves with the 'crane'
    - great safety culture, aircraft are well maintained
    - diverse job families within the corporation and possibilities to change jobs between companies
    - good benefits, but they are becoming more and more limited

    Cons

    - Corporate culture is too "German"
    - too much time goes by before decisions are made due to the need for general consent for every decision
    - cost measures are often questionable, lots of opportunities for cost-savings go by because they are not pushed enough
    - only few international managers or employees from different industries in headquarters
    - not innovative and cost-effective enough to withstand emerging competitors
    - limited career development possibilities for women (on paper yes, but not in real life)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lufthansa has to become more diverse to stay attractive as an employer. Management has communicate more effectively to get employees to stand behind their strategy.

I worked at Lufthansa full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

very good training programs, "Lufthansa family" feel with the colleagues, good flying benefits, especially for the staff based in Germany

    Cons

Very poor pay, therefore a big turnover. The discounted tickets are quite challenging to use, as they are on a stand by basis. Once you are a passenger, the flight personnel give you hard times by trying to discriminate you. It really does happen a lot!
