Pros

Lycos is backed by Bertelsmann and therefore one of the more stable Internet companies in Europe. Christoph Mohn, who is also the heir of the Bertelsmann empire is the CEO and has a very strong interest in making this company to succeed. Even though Lycos Europe has started off as a pure licensee of Lycos, Inc. it is developing now its own products and is a full fledged software company. Therefore it is well worth considering to work there if you want to be in the Internet and don't mind the location.

Cons

The management is not very consistent in its decisions and Lycos Europe has not been the leader in the European Internet that it aspired to become with its IPO in 2000. On the other hand that opens many opportunities for inspired people. A big drawback is the location, which pretty much shuts you off of everything and confines you to the countryside. So if you have a family with children, this may be a good place, otherwise, a startup in Berlin or Hamburg may be the better alternative for young people.

Advice to Senior Management

Make a well founded strategy, focus on it and stick to it long enough to succeed and only if it surely does not work change your mind.
