I have been working at LyondellBasell full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Competitive salary and benefits, safe, non-union facility.

    Cons

    Too many older, lazy complainers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rid the company of the poor performing, lazy, cry-babies that destroy morale.

I have been working at LyondellBasell as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Was a great company to complete my two internships with. They have an emphasis on safety which is key in this industry. Upper management is very friendly and is not intimidating and makes it easy to keep a healthy work environment.

    Cons

No cons from me, but Ive never worked behind the scenes or as actual employee although it felt like it.

I worked at LyondellBasell as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    Fairly competitive salary and wages.
    9/80 schedule.
Good breadth of technology with the potential for internal mobility.
Good support for young engineer growth.

    Cons

Middle management does not do enough to maintain a good working relationship among employees - doesn't seem to care about employees well being much.
Many people still work on their Friday's off.
Disrespectful of interns and temporary workers in general - the culture is not very friendly to these workers. I was always treated as different from the full timers.
Not a very global company - very much so focused on North America.
Can have a very competitive culture at times between engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not be afraid to intervene and check up on employees' well being more often, particularly young employees. As an intern, I had a few very unpleasant experiences that could have been avoided were I either more experienced in dealing with hostile coworkers or if management was more caring.

I have been working at LyondellBasell

    Pros

This has overall been a good experience at the company. Management has done well regarding the business side of the company. The benefits are excellent and they offer decent opportunities within the company.

    Cons

There is an unfortunate lack of employee training for younger employees to continue growing. The company struggles to keep the well qualified employees at the company.

I have been working at LyondellBasell full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Coworkers, we are paid well, but not to the channel standard for this size of a company. Safety culture in my unit. Good supervision with the exception of one, 3 out of 4 isn't bad. Fortunately, I have a good one at this time. A great place for a new hire to get experience and move on for better pay and benefits. The military and P-TECH intern program. Company safety values are good, but sometime a little over the top (drinking the kool-aide).

    Cons

Loosing experienced people due to better pay, pensions, 401K match, time-off policies. Good o'le boy system or carrot system. Some of the senior management act sincere but cannot make the changes that need to be made. It's a wait and see at this time. Not having employee involvement in the changes that need to be made (and I mean not just the "Yes Men").

I worked at LyondellBasell full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

LYB has a fresh restart after bankruptcy at low value and good not great asserts. The shale boom ( cheap feedstock) is doubled up by talented people who find ways to exploit the assets.

    Cons

Management is greedy and treats people poorly to drive out those who have different perspectives or who let the emperor know he has no clothes ( push back is not welcome - ever). Treat engineers in different regions quite differently. Squeeze hourly employees. Work life balance is tilted towards work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take your fortunes and move to the next place with new people to punish. It's time to have more fun and make another billion on the backs of honest workers.

I have been working at LyondellBasell as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Dupont schedule allowed for a week vacation every month

    Cons

Shift work was tough on body. They usually do not hire contract or temps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a greater effort to hire contractors.

I have been working at LyondellBasell as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Great work environment, knowledgeable employees, Great Safety Culture. I was only Here for the summer as an Intern but working with electrical I went all over the plant. All the people I talked to seemed satisfied with there work and workload.

    Cons

I was only working here for the summer as an Electrical Engineering Intern, but during my time here I didn't have any real problems. They treated us well and didn't ask for anything out of the normal. I dealt with most of the departments and didn't notice any animosity. Most people seemed happy and content.
