    Pros

LyondellBasell offers good benefits and has a solid reputation in the industry.

    Cons

LyondellBasell does not have a positive work environment. Managers over scrutinize employees' performance in order to facilitate forced ranking. There are very few opportunities for growth, instead people are shifted to jobs laterally. Managers are scared to make decisions and stand behind them.

    Pros

Good pay, not as good as it used to be, but not bad....

    Cons

Everything else. Benefits have been slashed over the years. Management seems to favor those who wear their brown noses with pride. You are appreciated by how well you keep your bosses looking good to their bosses instead of actually knowing how to do your job. They don't seem to care about their people.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Realize that the ones in the field make it happen. They are the ones who put their lives on the line everyday to turn the company a profit. Show them that you care by allowing them to retire one day. Let's face it, the pension is terrible, 401k match is below industry standard. You are one of the largest chemical companies in the world. NOW ACT LIKE IT!!

    Pros

Hard working, highly educated, high caliber workforce. Extreme commitment to Safety. Strong focus on efficiency and profitability, which is great due to ESOP. Strong in all markets it participates in. Very interesting work. Flat to falling on costs year to year, ensures lean staffing in strong economies and weak economies, so minimal layoffs in weak economy. (bankruptcy in excepted.) New CEO in 1/15 is a breath of fresh air!

    Cons

High turnover, kind of a sweat shop, forced ranking often moves people at the top years before to out the bottom a few years later even though no chnage in performance, especially in high performing teams. As a manager, if you do a superior job recruiting high caliber team members, you are eventually penalized by having to force rank strong performers to below average to satisfy "the Curve". Also, when problems occurr, the tendency is to blame people, not systems or policies. Employees feel insecuree about continued employment.

    Advice to Management

Put some discipline in the system by a) establishing a minimum time for employees to stay in a position, and b) allow employees to be promoted within an existing position without needing to chamge positions to get promoted. Currently, employees are allowed to apply for new positions after 12+ months. Since turnover is high, positions open up fairly frequently. and people move to new position before learning their position. (It's like eating our young.) Hard to get traction on significant improvements with such high turn in jobs.

    Pros

Good money, good benefits! Hardest working workers I have ever seen (due to the fear of losing their jobs)

    Cons

Work you like a slave because you are salaried! You never get caught up on your work. If you are African American I would pick any other company to work for. Unless you get in Houston on the 4th floor you are doomed for failure. The company is very political, managers have favorites, and if you aren't an Aggie (Texas A & M graduate) beware! The Aggies pull for each other, it's like a cult! They help each other move up the ladder!!!! Sorry to say, if their aren't any more African-Americans to harass, if you are a minority you are the next in line. Laugh it you must, but this is serious business! Let's not forget, the company in India is doing most of the transactional work, so your job may not last long.

    Advice to Management

Get real HR and diversity training, not that bull on the website! Learn what makes a great company!!!! If you are so concerned with losing employees, learn what really makes employees happy, instead of putting fear in them and having them cry during the day, and not taking lunch breaks!

    Pros

Great people to work with, great benefit- offers retirement along with 401k. Offers challenging environment. One the best if not the best safety culture. Company truly cares about its employees and their well being.

    Cons

prepare to work 50+ hours, new hire process too slow.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!!

    Pros

The people I work with period. Gallogly pulled his ripcord, we are in a honeymoon with Mr. Bob Patel. After the Union Vote things are slowly changing. Upper Management is now engaged with the hourly folks. They need to keep it up, the people closet to the pipes make this company, not just Operations but **IEA, **MACH and Daylight Personnel at the site (TEAMWORK). The Management at the plant is engaged. Working together we will make this right and even the Pro Union guys are getting onboard.

    Cons

At this time they are starting to getting back to basics not treating as us as commodity.

    Advice to Management

Build on this, not just pay but benefits and retirement. Remove the Dinosaur Supervisors and Unit Managers. Make this site the "Jewel of the Channel" that it was 10+ years ago for not just the hourly but salary and contract personnel. If we can work on this together it will happen. Back in the day, it was said "We Make Things Happen". Let us bring that back again. Keep the young Technicians around so that they are not picked off by the other plants in the area. "See you in the field"

    Pros

Good company to start your career, that's about it.

    Cons

Stagnation after a while. cheap cheap cheap is the gallogly mantra that has been looming here even with the new CEO. Yet to see a change after he took over. keep cutting cost even when they are making trillions of $$$

    Advice to Management

Respect people like assets and not like slaves.
