    First Co-op Term

I have been working at LyondellBasell

    Pros

LYB gives its co-ops actual assignments that are both meaningful and challenging. If you take initiative, you can really learn a lot and contribute to the company during a co-op term.

    Cons

LYB is a company that doesn't directly give housing to its co-op students. Makes finding housing "somewhat" tricky.

I worked at LyondellBasell full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Depending on the site you work at, you can have either great people with little office politics. A Lyondell site is a great place to work, a Basell site not so much.

    Cons

There are obvious clique's and either you're in them or you're shunned. There is not a good culture. Not many training opportunities compared to other companies Pay isn't competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay closer attention to employees growth and retention.

I worked at LyondellBasell as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I had a job shadowing chance with LyondellBasell through my high school as a requirement and I enjoyed every second when I was there. It was a great opportunity and an eyeopener into this specific field of work. The people who I was job shadowing was very friendly like a family honestly. They were very informative and shows myself and the other students different parts of the plant - control board & room, loadout, lab, etc. I had a chance to climb up the ladders with platform too, that is a definite great first experience! Overall, I had a great time there even though during the time this was not the field of work I was following. However thanks to this experience, I am currently pursuing an Associate of Applied Science for Process Technology to enter this industry!

    Cons

I honestly have no complaints or remember any from my experience there.

I have been working at LyondellBasell as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Was a great company to complete my two internships with. They have an emphasis on safety which is key in this industry. Upper management is very friendly and is not intimidating and makes it easy to keep a healthy work environment.

    Cons

No cons from me, but Ive never worked behind the scenes or as actual employee although it felt like it.

I worked at LyondellBasell as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    Fairly competitive salary and wages.
    9/80 schedule.
Good breadth of technology with the potential for internal mobility.
Good support for young engineer growth.

    Cons

Middle management does not do enough to maintain a good working relationship among employees - doesn't seem to care about employees well being much.
Many people still work on their Friday's off.
Disrespectful of interns and temporary workers in general - the culture is not very friendly to these workers. I was always treated as different from the full timers.
Not a very global company - very much so focused on North America.
Can have a very competitive culture at times between engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not be afraid to intervene and check up on employees' well being more often, particularly young employees. As an intern, I had a few very unpleasant experiences that could have been avoided were I either more experienced in dealing with hostile coworkers or if management was more caring.
