If your're not a nurse or doctor don't waste your time!!

Patient Services Coordinator (Former Employee)
Houston, TX

I worked at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

ProsGreat pride working for one of the top cancer hospitals in the world.

ConsVery hard to transfer to different departments, They say you can transfer after 6 months of employment but unless you know someone in management you can't move anywhere, If you are not a nurse or doctor you will get NO respect, They tend to look down on nursing assistants, clerks, secretaries etc... You might as well be invisible.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement has a real problem about choosing favorites. It's extremely unfair to the employees to watch management goof off and appoint their "favs" raises while your busting your butt for nothing. They should also be required to take classes in proffesionalism as well.

Great Mission, Not Always a Great Place to Work

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Houston, TX

I worked at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

ProsOutstanding mission and service. "Making cancer history" -- what could be better than that?

ConsCan be very bureaucratic. Some managers are great while others are out to milk the system.

Advice to Senior ManagementEvaluate management and employees on performance, not politics.

A place ideal for those who are interested in academic career

Postdoctoral (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center full-time for more than a year

ProsHere you can work with smart researchers/scholars/clinicians, who may come from different countries and devote their lives in cancer-related researches. Meetings/symposium are held quite often, revealing new treatments/discovery. Academic atmosphere is very strong.

ConsSalary is limited by funding and mostly lower than expected. Also you can not stay in this position too long because it has a limit of years. Long work hours may be required, but it also depends on labs.

Neither here nor there

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

ProsThey have a powerful mission- making cancer history. It makes you feel like your a part of something huge, bigger than yourself

ConsBureaucracy, red tape, you could get in your work and just keep going 'cause everyone is too busy to stop for a minute. The skills are present, personality? especially when it comes to interdepartmental stuff?....it could be better.
