Pros
benefits are very good for employees
Cons
hours work are very long
Pros
Still employed during hard times.
Cons
Cutting edge management philosophy....for 1890. Classic management 101 mistake; give an employee responsibility with no authority.
Advice to Senior Management
If you don't want your people to make decisions and take ownership of their responsibilities, then don't hire qualified professionals. It leads to dissatisfaction and low morale.
Pros
Great people to work with from mid-level management down.
Cons
Exec leadership is a one way street. Right or wrong. Many sr. mgrs are placed in the wrong position. Culture and moral is non-existent.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on your people and the business will improve. Take away good people and you will continue to struggle.
Pros
Silo'd organization allows some freedom in work
Cons
Employees are commodities; massive layoffs last 5 years
Pros
The company is well positioned to move forward with any improvement in the current home building economic climate. They are conservative in their leadership style and will be in business a long time with their strategies.
Cons
The benefits continue to shrink each year as with most companies. Over the past few years, RIFS and voluntary resignations have resulted in a significant loss of talent.
Advice to Senior Management
Find the balance between stock holder expectations and employee satisfaction. Sometimes cutting compensation and benefits cost more in the long run when real talent (aka productivity) walk out the door.
Pros
In new home sales the company has vision for growth and planning by buying land and opening communities in many states.
Cons
Your receive draw towards your future commissions. One half of a sale could apply for checks. No sales, no checks.
Pros
Good Pay & benefits. Good insurance
Cons
No time off. Hazardous wirking conditions
Advice to Senior Management
Boot the all!
Pros
GOod place to get into the denver market place but would get out while you can! The majority of the graphic designers are very talented and try their best to make the boring work tolerable.
Cons
Incredibly dull advertising campaigns. Senior management is outdated and has no idea how to treat employees. Had to work 15 hour+ shifts and had to clock out so I would not go over in hours. Get out while you can!
Advice to Senior Management
Get new advertising campaigns. Pay people what they are worth. Quit going with the horrible 80's stuff that only middle aged old people like.
Pros
Lots of opportunity to move up as there is high turnover and growth potential in the industry. Transformation of the company has begun to occur with the downturn in the economy and consolidation of divisons, leading to improvements.
Cons
Senior Leadership is not as hands on as in years past, leaving many company operations disjointed and frustrated with lack of direction.
Advice to Senior Management
Stronger direction and involvement from President and CEO.
Pros
Exposure in the field if you want to be in home building. You will get a lot of experience - some of it you will wish you didn't have.
Cons
Culture, leadership, cut-throat. The culture is such that it makes MDC a diffult place to feel successful.
Advice to Senior Management
Realize the value of your employees.
