I worked at M&C Saatchi as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

As an intern, I was as part of the pitch process from A-Z on two major national accounts. Also was assigned independent projects that were used directly in pitch. It was paid.... a rarity in the undergrad intern world.

    Cons

A lot of gossiping/office politics. It was a small office, people worked on top of each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great job encouraging young people, this was overall a wonderful opportunity.

I have been working at M&C Saatchi full-time

    Pros

Global Reach, people and Terrific name - professionals assume you are Saatchi and Saatchi which is a large part of why we get our foot in the door with a lot of clients.

    Cons

Tech tools don't always work because the URLS of the tools are based out of London and if you aren't physically in a M&C office it doesn't always work (e.g. work from home or local Starbucks). Forced to use GMAIL ...great for personal, terrible for business and project management (e.g. Can't attach emails to other email strings, Lables are not the same as folders for Media Planners, can't copy and paste charts and graphs from MSFT products (limited integration), and bullets come out funky). Most of the U.S. uses outlook for business not gmail.

There is an unhealthy security that IT implements on all computers so you can't update basic programs, choose ones you want to use, etc...without submitting a ticket (and by the way the tech team is in London).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While upper management is solid, there doesn't seem to be any communication that ladders up. There are quite a few issues that a lot of employees have but those issues fall on deaf ears. Please hire a HR department as there are issues related to interviewing and employees that haven't been sorted.

Smart people, great team, occasionally forgetful of the PEOPLE that make up the TEAM

I worked at M&C Saatchi full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Really smart people - strategically superior than the majority of agencies out there - an environment of professionals who are ALL IN and fully committed to the agency brand - great work is created here and shortcuts and messiness are not tolerated - that alone makes M&C a client's dream because they do not have to worry about the details - M&C lives by the details

    Cons

A bit stiff on occasion - at times there is the tendency to ignore the fact that culture and the appreciation are both very important parts of an organization and can lead to or detract from its ultimate success

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to everyone - good ideas come from everywhere - and laugh a bit - and appreciate the commitment people have to the M&C Saatchi brand - that type of commitment is rare and precious

I have been working at M&C Saatchi full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some excellent people to work with. Lots of opportunities if you're smart enough to spot them & are prepared to put yourself forwards.

    Cons

Top-heavy management can cause a lot of tension. Lean teams - long hours. Low pay compared to other agencies. The 'sink or swim' culture is quite aggressive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be cautious of focusing too much on the numbers & targets. Below management there is a sense that the people running the agency are only concerned with hitting targets & getting their bonuses. Teams feel over-worked, under-paid and unappreciated.

I worked at M&C Saatchi full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good people with nice intentions. Creatives are untapped.

    Cons

Obsession with planning and strategy rather than doing. Biggest concern is impressing big guys in London and Australia. Worry about here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evolve and integrate. Planning and strategy is the path not the goal.

I worked at M&C Saatchi as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Start-up feel with a lot of factors to learn which keeps you on your toes.

    Cons

The management lacks HR and overall it is a bit unorganized. Also the international feel was a bit uncommunicative and by that I mean they are nice people but they lack connectivity. People don't seem to be happy working. Putting up with each other, rather than loving life and the creative work they are doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire HR. Look long term. Planners and Bus/Dev, PR and Brand Consulting could/should have discourse.

    Pros

Small, friendly, smart, understanding, fun, good balance, nice environment, good location. Had a great time working here.

    Cons

No opportunities to do giant, impactful campaigns if that's what you're looking for. No digital department in house because of the size.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None. Great experience.

    Pros

The people here are great - they're creative, they really want to help you learn and they're extremely friendly.

    Cons

I felt stupid quite a lot (although everyone was very patient with me!)

I worked at M&C Saatchi full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Colleagues are very welcoming when you get into the company, there are lots of opportunities to get to know your co-workers (as there are about 400). You'll receive lots of responsibilities very early on & get chances to jump in on new projects.

    Cons

The work-life balance is quite off, they're working hard to meet the deadlines and when they finish, there will be another pitch just waiting around the corner. They're trying to turn the company around and make them look ready for the future, while they are not yet comfortable in a certain way of working.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Send your employees home when you see they have been in the office non-stop for 3 weeks straight. Less selling, more building.

    Pros

    Very big and international clients

    Cons

NO perks, you have to pay for a decent coffee, a juice or a snack at the company cafeteria; no events for the employees (only xmas party).
