An Ego circus

I have been working at M&M Merchandisers

ProsMost weekends off. Decent benefits for a small company. Despite the short comings of the company as a whole there are some very good co-workers.

ConsWhere to start? It's a small company that will always be a small company because they hold themselves back. They want to be perceived as a major player, but are afraid (or are too cheap, I'm not sure which) to step up and play the wholesale game on the same level as their competition.

They want to sell in the big box arena and earmark product that big box stores "might" buy and handicap their salesmen who struggle to make sales to the core customers who grew them to where they are today. These core customers play second fiddle to the big box stores and are forced to purchase their staple products from other vendors. If M&M continues this course there will be no need for the professional sales staff and their hard working support staff.

Is M&M a good place to work? No where close to what it once was.

Both locations are in the "hood" not safe at all.

The owner ignores any suggestions the staff and management may have. And the C.O.O. Is nothing more than a yes man feeding the owner what he wants to hear.

Advice to Senior ManagementWake up and pull your head out before it's too late.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Not a forward thinker in the building

I have been working at M&M Merchandisers full-time for more than a year

ProsHuge catalog, good product variety.

ConsThe President is not interested in changing anything and hasn't been in 20 years. The COO is all about collecting a paycheck and making his kid look good. (His kid BTW is the sorriest excuse for a sales rep you'll ever see) The President's kid also works there . . .

If you are not a family member or a brown noser then it's not the place for you. The VP of Sales is a puppet who can't or won't make any decisions on his own. They have no marketing dept at all.

This company may have been great in 1985 but now they are a dinosaur with no interest in changing. If you are a creative thinker this is where you go to die and forget everything you know about being successful.

If you need a job and have no other options then take a gig here until you find another option, nothing more.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate a modern business model.
Give your sales team a reason to be successful.
Encourage "New" business and "Cold Calling"
Get some sort of CRM

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
