    I worked at M&T Bank full-time

    Pros

Great community bank! It was nice to work for a local bank headquartered locally.

    Cons

Difficult time moving up and being promoted. The managers needed to realize the good employees they had.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the hard working employees you have. Treat them well. Pay them their worth. Don't bring in outsiders and pay them more for doing the same job.

    Pros

Supportive team at local branch level

    Cons

Non supportive management team. Good old boys club. District manager waiting to retire and didn't care about his staff.

    Advice to Management

    Care more about their employees

I worked at M&T Bank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You gain experience working with people with various back-rounds. Training is semi-sufficient. They give you tools to do your job.

    Cons

You have to worry about constant product pushes even if that's not what's best for the customer. They wont stand behind you if you make a mistake after years of flawless service. High deductible insurance coupled with poor pay.

    Advice to Management

Management, you say your employees and especially your tellers are the 'face of the bank' However, anybody who has been there for a minute knows your words are hollow and meaningless. You need to stop scrambling to go above and beyond to impress the gov't and think for a second about the 'risk you're creating in your branches. You have and have had some great people who are only there until they find a better job. They are not as loyal to you as you would like to believe. You need to treat your employees better and stop acting like you own them because you don't. I understand that your true concern is your bottom line, so let me put it this way...You will continue to waste money on training new employees needlessly if you don't do better with the the ones you already have.

I have been working at M&T Bank (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent conservative company. Good co-workers although they are constantly being lost to other banks. Possible opportunities to advance your career.

    Cons

Lower salaries compared to area. Clueless management. The regional sales manager is a yes man and only addresses problems when they arise, and in turn places blame on everyone else. Complete lack of structure and leadership.

    Advice to Management

Find some better upper management that is more concerned about being professional and taking ownership, rather than feeding their ego with their company card.

    Pros

There is nothing positive about working at M & T.

    Advice to Management

    Replace them all.

    Pros

Decent pay and good relationships between same level employees

    Cons

Upper and Mid Level management is very disconnected from lower level employees

    Advice to Management

Give a survey that actually listens to employee concerns.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at M&T Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A multitude of programs are made available for both 1st time home buyers and for seasoned purchasers.

    Cons

Rates aren't competitive, compensation and marketing support are weak and sometimes you get the feeling that they wouldn't be able to close a lightweight door in a windstorm.

    Advice to Management

I feel they should take steps to make the workflow smoother, the LO comp higher and then get out and hit the streets to market M&T and its Loan Officers more aggressively amongst the real estate community.
