I have been working at MAC Cosmetics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

MAC is one amazing company. I don't have a lengthy job history & before MAC I had trouble with sticking around at my current job. I got bored easily, there was no room to grow and I wanted to do what I enjoyed! MAC keeps things fresh, they have AMAZING BENEFITS for employees & you're extremely valued.

    Cons

As there are huge growth opportunities within MAC, forget about going higher than an assistant manager without some type of tenure. MAC rarely hires outside of the brand for RSM/MRO/SRM positions (which is a smart move). If you were interested in a position outside of store level, expect to be with the company 7-10 years before you're considered. Also, expect to work more than the hours you are signed on for. It's retail and that happens...you must be flexible.

    Advice to Management

Touch base with all employees. Yes, upper management is our voice. All too often, upper management rolls lower management under the bus to save themselves. Reduce paperwork & allow managers to be on the floor more with employees for developmental purposes. I've seen stores tank because of managers who cannot delegate their tasks efficiently therefore there is little to no on-floor training.

    Pros

Dream job if this is your passion Gain experience freelancing Have fun at work

    Cons

too many freelancers not enough hours You'll have to ring for the permanent girls sometimes so they reach their sales goals, but it not good for you in the long run because they can't see how much you actually sell

    Advice to Management

Dont hire that many freelancers, especially when a few of them are completely open availability.

I worked at MAC Cosmetics (More than a year)

    Pros

Constantly being able to practice your skills on such a variety of different faces. The training is awesome. The employee discount is AMAZING, and gratis from every new line doesn't hurt neither. Always up to date on trends, keeps you on your toes!

    Cons

Pretentious people who treat others poorly because of the rep this company has. Number one goal is sell sell sell. But what do you expect, how else are they going to make money?

    Advice to Management

    VALUE your employees.
