    Pros

Compensation was fair. The hours were fair.

    Cons

Employees that should be hourly are paid salary to avoid overtime.
There is no training or onboarding
Performance expectations are vague and unrealistic
Most of the workforce is temporary staffing that are treated very poorly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop realistic project plans with well-considered goals before launching a project with little or no idea of how to accomplish what is needed. Cut back drastically on the use of temporary staffing.

    Pros

Close to home, easy job to get with a bachelors degree, and there are grocery stores nearby which was convenient for lunch. Many of the coworkers were nice.

    Cons

No vacation, pay is not the best, and there is very little room for personal or professional growth. As an enrollment counselor, you will be the least important personnel.

I have been working at MAXIMUS as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Fairly normal work hours, decent training, clean environment, clean restrooms, free coffee, good feelings from helping people when all goes smoothly, being able to trade shifts with other workers, getting paid every week as a temp, working independently. On Fridays we have someone come to our desks with free bags of popcorn.

    Cons

Sharing a cubicle with someone, the noise level of many reps on the phone at once can be challenging. The pay is way too low, you are expected to keep customers on the phone while you document the calls which can be challenging, having your calls monitored and reviewed can feel like constant criticism, not much positive feedback. You feel overwhelmed when the phone constantly rings and bored out of your mind when it doesn't ring. All workers start as temps and there is no timeframe for permanent hire. My trainer was there for a year before being hired. Then the company pay is only 38 cents more and hour than the temp pay. The top pay is around 15 an hour. A coworker has been with the company for 15 years and is at the top of the pay scale at $15 an hour with no raise in 5 years. There is a very high employee turnover rate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better pay is a definite must.

I have been working at MAXIMUS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a relaxed environment and not super strict

    Cons

The company doesn't care about their employees anymore. They expect everyone to have perfect performance all the time....unless you're the sups friend, then you get away with murder. The sups are very unprofessional and the hiring process to move up is questionable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees needs and consider bringing the fun things back to work, such as MAC

    Worst company on the planet

    Pros

None. Do not join this company unless you are out of your last option.

    Cons

The company culture consists of extremely poor management, too much cronyism, favoritism, slavery and a QA group that is loaded with distrust and of back stabbers. The managers are not capable of anything and they are a good bunch of egoistic puppets who is powerless. The company's building is getting leased out due to huge loss because of poor decisions and employees are getting laid off. HR department is useless and won't take any action against people who have 100's of complaints against them. It is not a good place for professionals. Run....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not hire contractors(managers) whose decision making is based on the tool ALM and who is incapable of doing anything else constructively and wisely. Maximus hired a consultant QA manager who was very bad mouthed and had issues with everybody in the team and other teams. This was a very bad decision which ruined a project that lost $32 million in the process. Several intelligent employees and contractors left because of that manager. The hiring happened because that manager was a crony of one of the IT VP's. The QA team had to work day and nights and weekends for 6 months even though it is against the law. People under that manger was treated like slaves and even after escalating this issue to the HR with strong evidence, no action was taken because of the cronyism and the ineffective HR.

Make sure to hire capable managers who are professional enough to handle issues rather than hiring emotionally motivated puppets who sit there and can't decide anything of their own.

    Cons

    -Confusing direction from management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use positive encouragement across the board. Pay workers what they are worth. Refrain from making contracts with counties that are impossible to meet.
