I have been working at MBIA full-time

    Pros

Outstanding compensation and benefits. Convenient location for people living north of NYC. Work life is generally fairly reasonable but depends upon department within the company.

    Cons

Can be difficult to make progress in career. Many long-timers at the top ranks who are not as open to change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep employees as informed as possible about changes as the company re-builds itself. Be honest in the progress as well as issues which arise. Work to help employees understand how their careers can progress and what they need to do to achieve their career goals.

    I worked at MBIA

    Pros

Compensation, location, smart people, and challenge are all good. There is an understanding that good staff are important to the success of the company.

    Cons

Little to no support for one's personal life to the point where time off is looked down upon. A very top down approach which does not empower the bright people working there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To make this a more attractive place to work, actively support work life initiatives - not grudgingly but whole heartedly. Trust your employees to work hard and do the right thing - manage out the few who don't.

Former Employee - Associate in Armonk, NY

    I worked at MBIA

    Pros

It used to be a respected and solid company before the crash of the financial industry.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities in some areas of the company. Uneven division of task and responsibilities within the same position level.
Very bureaucratic and paralyzed place. Impossible to have anything done without endorsement from half the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let people do their work and keep them responsible and accountable, less micro-management.

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO
